Laser Thin Dyed Veneers

This video details the procedures and equipment need to laser inlays for thin dyed veneers. Two different boxes, with varying complexity are shown. The processes required to finish the veneers is also shown. The veneers I use are mad by Sauers, but there are other sources available. Process shows the use of LightBurn , but RDWorks would be similar.

That is outstanding! Both jobs came out fantastic. I'm just getting into this type of work and it's really amazing what can be done with the laser. I di have one question if I may,,,,,How did you get the white border around the letters in the word LOVE? That really makes the letters pop but I didn't see how you did that. That is just an illusion. It is the the top wood. So imagine it is a border. just a little inset from the black. They aren't white, just wood.

good stuff, id reccomend a lower tack tape to try and prevent tearing when you take it off, im sure you have a vacum bag on your christmas list ;0)

Good recommendation.. The vacuum bag is a good idea, but doesn't work for me in the shop. But I will investigate that. T u and.

Question: why don’t you use transfer tape instead of masking tape. It won’t stick as much!

I triedtransfer tape, it doesn't work for wide veneers. I switched to yellow frog tape since this video.

Appreciate the video! I am currently doing my first inlay on a walnut box I made. I also found I liked the look not adjusting for kerf. I have a buck in the design I am using and playing with power and speed to keep the laser from vaporizing the tiny horns :) For this one I am creating the inlay and mounting it to its own backing. I use a 3 in forstner bit on the box itself. That gives me unlimited tries on getting the inlay correct before it goes on the box. Do you make your designs yourself or do you have a good source for those? Thanks again for taking the time to share your technique - very helpful for me.

I make all my own geometric designs, but for silhouettes, I use Vecteezy and other vector sources.

Started to use Purple Tape, which doesn't pull out the veneers.. problem solved
