I think this film is far more intelligent than you give it credit for. Perhaps the film is a metaphor for addiction. There are a lot of characters in the film addicted to certain substances such as the Police Officer addicted to the weed, Billy addicted to Coca Cola. Their addictions not only ware down every character mentally which is why nothing makes sense, but it also wares down their physical bodies which is why every character looks older than they really are. I am surprised you don't relate to these characters or understand the brilliance of the film since you are addicted to Mars Bars. Perhaps you are in denial.
