Timmy finds a young skunk and adopts it as his pet, but everyone is afraid to come close to it, even Lassie. But Lassie still understands the value of friendship and comes to the little critter's aid when a hunter finds it.
Actor Ray Montgomery born (Los Angles, CA 1922) who plays the nice hunter in this 1960 Lassie episode, had begun his acting career in 1941 with Warner Brothers. He spent the next two years playing small, often uncredited parts in feature films until he left acting in 1943 to join the US Navy in WWII. At the end of the war he returned to acting in small roles in film, always overshadowed by big name actors, until the advent of television in the 1950's when his career took an upturn and he began to get feature roles. A gifted actor, Montgomery could do comedy as well as drama, and was in multiple episodes of The Lone Ranger, and Lassie - both series produced by Jack Wrather who obviously had seen the value in adding the handsome actor to guest parts in both highly acclaimed family shows. Montgomery continued acting in TV and film until the 1970's. He died 4 June 1998 in Santa Barbara, California. (source: IMBD.com, wikipedia.org, allmovie.com)
