So very often, Last Action Hero spoofs action movies just enough to make it clear how many aspects of them are ridiculous. It’s a work of genius! The boy actor and his character get a bit annoying once in a while, but that’s not too serious a flaw. The cameos, especially Anthony Quinn as an aged gangster ridiculously named Antonio Vivaldi, are great fun, and Charles Dance, as the principal antagonist, is brilliant. It’s frequently too clever for its own good, and I suspect that most of the cleverness went over the heads of audiences. Most of it still will today.

For humor, the director intentionally left in continuity errors. An example is when Slater is hanging from the elevator, he lets go a part of the frame. Instead of falling down, it falls behind him.

Very underrated movie. The trailers where on MTV all day for it, als the movie TV programs where heavy on this film. Love it, seen it in the theater got it on Blu-ray (wrote a Dutch review on it too) and this is one of those movies you can watch over and over again.

My 5th favorite arnold movie (moreso than some of his bigger classics). I was around 9-10 when this came out and I had seen almost all of Arnold's movies by then, so the whole idea of a kid being magically transported into an Arnold movie and going on adventures with him was the greatest thing ever.

This is one of my favorite movies and I can't tell you how many times I have heard people complain about this film and they clearly did not "get" it, not understanding it's a self referential call out to action films and how none of them make any kind of sense at all yet it goes over their heads. "It was dumb, there is no way he could have shot back the bundle of dynamite at the start or driven while seated the wrong way!" Me: ... DID YOU EVEN PAY ATTENTION TO THE PREMISE OF THIS FILM?!?

Hell yeh it’s better than people remember. My only real gripe is one Arnold himself had; don’t explain why. You don’t need the ‘magic ticket’. The kid’s love of the material should’ve been the fantastic catalyst. How much better would the dynamite coming through the screen be if it just ‘happened’. And yes, I wish we actually got a Slater franchise for real. I’d watch the hell out of it.

True Story: I went to see this in the Theater, and once it was revealed that the Opening Sequence was a Movie itself, a guy in back of the Theater yelled out "MotherFUCKER! I thought that was the FUCKIN MOVIE!" It was beyond hilarious. Everybody in the Theater laughed hysterically.

This is the ONLY movie where I don't believe the movie would have been better without someone other than Arnie in the role he played. Of course, if he hadn't been in all those other movies this one would have been terrible with him in it. For years, his fans generally hated this movie. I was a teen working at the movie theatre when this came out an a LOT of youngish dudes walked out at the end genuinely angry. They didn't get it. They didn't like his movies ironically, they thought movies like Commando (another one we had while I worked there) were genuinely cool.
