Poor shot selection, like on your first shot, is common to we mortals. It has come and gone with me for over 30 years. Every time we agonize over the shot we make it worse. Confidence is a fragile thing and your shooter here is suffering. I feel for you man cuz i"ve been there. No amount of practice eliminates that pressure to shoot when the animal is there in front of you.

like your "this is how it is" videos and your hunting enthusiasm, however really questioning your shot selections: the first long shot on the elk in the preview: animal is broadside however on alert and looking at shooter, clearly jumps the string at that distance causing a wounded animal. now a lost bull on a frontal shot. I would like to see you guys calling more and getting the bulls in close, I have taken 6 bulls with archery and never over 20 yards, closest being 12. Called in dozens for buddies and we make sure we work our "V" formation so we can get broadside shots, elk are super tough and you need the double lung!!

Nice video. Too bad you lost him. Elk are tough, tough animals. You've got to hi them right! Even then sometimes it's hard. On another note if anyone here is from Colorado, we had another bowhunter killed here this season by a muzzleloader. The previous one was 2016 a 14 year old boy. This has to stop. Nothing against muzzleloaders but they need their own season. Every major Western elk hunting state has muzzleloader in a different season. Colorado is the only one that has it the same as archery. I guess CPW didn't get it the first time. Let's make are voices heard. It may be you or one of your sons or daughters next. Get online and email CPW. And if possible your elected officials.

Its to bad you didn't recover the elk. That is why you never take a frontal shot as the window is small and so much room for error. Broadside shot in archery is always the best shot as you have more vitals to work with. I admire your decision. More than likely the bull died and you made the right decision to punch your tag.

Shit happens, worst feeling in the world to follow blood and never find the animal, but it happens. As a hunter you gotta be prepared that it will happen at some point.

Why do people take these shots? If it’s not perfect and under 20 yards it should never be an option! You better sign your tag!
@UnGuidedOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
Why would you sign your tag with a miss lol?!? Perfect and under 20…. Never seen perfect, and maybe 1 or two times under 20. Seen 30 elk harvested public land archery. 75% shots over 50 yards several 60-80, and several frontal. I get it some people wait for perfect and 20 more power to you, but we like eating elk and not tags.

When i was young i hit a buck and watched the deer run off. Never saw a drop of blood but i hit him high lungs….plain as day. We went to the logical location based on the direction he was running. My dad kept wanting to leave. He said i didn’t kill the deer, etc. eventually we left. I found him two weeks later only 20 yards from where we last looked. He was bedded up by the creek where we thought he’d be. I’m never letting anyone tell me how good or bad my shot was ever again and whether or not to give up. Even my dad.

Through trees frontal shot. Wounded an animal. Bad call.
@UnGuidedOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
😂 easy to say that now and from behind a screen. But at the time had it hit a little lower and left we are talking a dead elk, either you are a hero or a 0. On a side note I have seen more elk killed frontal than any other shot in person.
@johnhawkk3 жыл бұрын
UnGuided Outdoors No actually, I would say the same thing to your face so the behind the screen dig doesn’t apply. I wasn’t there but the video you took doesn’t present a clear shot. It looked like there was a lot of branches etc. and a frontal target at 35 yards presents a small target at best. I’m commenting on your video, things might’ve looked different in person I don’t know. Did you guys spend any time trying to call that bull back or track it after you lost the blood trail? You never said. What I do know is there’s an elk somewhere with an arrow imbedded in its shoulder as a result of, as per your video, a bad call. But like I said I wasn’t there.
@goodstuff1693 жыл бұрын
@@UnGuidedOutdoors you have to be an idiot to say that was good shot selection.
@UnGuidedOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
The shooter was considerably left of the camera, lastly that was the only bull he shot. So maybe it lived maybe it didn’t either way he tagged it his bull. Yeah we tried calling the bull back in, trailed him for hours ran out of blood. But again if a bull gives us a frontal we are taking it, the next episode we release shooter frontal shoots a bull at 40. The bull expires in a few yards and we notch a Wyoming tag. Maybe you have elk hunted a lot I don’t know, but what I do know they never come in perfect and stand perfect for the perfect shot, I have seen a absolute pile of elk shot/killed and never seen one come in 20 yards and just sit broadside. 9/10 they are going to give you a small window of a chance and that’s where we practice shooting bows all year and try and make the best shot we can, in this case it didn’t work out but he didn’t go around wounding more elk either it was a one and done.
@UnGuidedOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
It was the only shot, and I guess we are idiots because in the next episode we release, a shooter takes this same shot and the bull dies with in seconds. Thanks for watching us idiots lol.
@kennethgettmann6823 жыл бұрын
That poor guy that was the shooter in both encounters, you guys and the caller in particular (especially the guy in the yeti hat) were extremely hard on your friend. You have to put frustrations to the side and lift up your hunting buddies. We all make mistakes in the woods and yeah sometimes we wound animals. But gosh almighty you guys tore him apart. Pretty sad to be honest. I will always remember my first miss on an elk. Another guy in our hunting party who is known for being an excellent elk hunter lifted me up and told me that even he misses. You have to have each other’s back in the woods cause man the emotions roll like the Alaskan tides. If I was the shooter in both situations I would be finding a new group of more positive hunters to spend my falls with.
