Last Chance to find Water at my Off Grid Cabin

The ground will soon be frozen so it's my last chance to dig a shallow well and find that water I need. Otherwise I have to haul in water every week from town.

The water table of your hole means it is just water from the pond.when winter sets in the water in the hole will freeze making it a waste of time!!!😅

My neighbor and friend had a hand dug well. It was fine for 60 years then it got contaminated and he died of ALS which is just about the worst way to die. Whatever your doing I would strongly recommend having an expert look at the finished product

When using the mini digger to dig holes you need to get the thumb retracted out the way, it's making life really difficult and preventing you from getting a decent load in the bucket, only use the thumb for grabbing and lifting. Although the little digger isn't great you need to just practise, and main tip with those stick controls is the second it starts to shake, take you hands off the sticks and let it stabilise. Also reducing the RPM can prevent it shaking.

Russell, I've read a few comments below. I agree. Go as deep as you reasonably can with a hand shovel. Do it as best as possible the first time because fixing it later will be a major pain. I'm envious. I'd be fortunate to find a foot and a half of soil anywhere near my camp and a million suspended rocks if I did and that's if I could get that machine anywhere near the camp without hiring a helicopter. My trail is a challenge to say the least. Good luck.

Dig a slope to the hole with a flat bench for the mini. You can get another four or five feet easly. You'll have to back out every bucket .

Remove the thumb to go deeper or dig closer to you so the thumb does not hit the rock

My dad dug our with a pick and shovel . But that was before I was born and that was 75 years ago. The well was 75 or 80 foot deep.

I would go deeper, if you could dig a trough to drive your excavator in then you can dig down deeper, not sure if there are to many rocks for you to do that....Test the hole for bedrock. Remember its a wet time of year, come summer you might not have water. I went down 6' below the water level in my lake not sure you can do that with that small excavator. Thanks for the video...

Hi Russell- ignore the naysayers - you're doing a good effort with Bumblebee. Practice makes perfect. I do think if you can get down an extra 500-600mm (about 2 feet) now with your well, it will be much better than trying to retrospectively try and get deeper later.

I'm just guessing here but if you don't go below the frost line it will freeze. Could you some how get water from the pond behind your house and run it through a filtration system to solve your problems?

It's a pity that it's hard to get the well deeper. Maybe Ray has some tricks with Bumblebee? Or maybe you could dig a bit of a ramp downwards at the side of the well so you can get Bumblebee lower to dig deeper? Best of luck with it!

Hopefully this isn't just a fluke. Anyhow, make sure you have a good cover for that so someone or animal doesn't fall in during the night or snow. But you probably thought out. As someone else said, wondering if that can dig deep enough for you? Best of luck. Would be so nice and healthier for you to have a well. Though it needs continual monitoring and purifying if necessary. I grew up on well water, then finally the city made it out to our home. I missed the well water. It tasted better, but supposedly city water was safer. Nowadays I wonder about that.

Russell, A 2" trash pump would serve your needs, and you may want to hand dig your well deeper. But be aware of possible wall collapse. If you decide to go deeper, it is advisable to build yourself a caisson for safety. As for the stone fill you need, have Home Depot deliver a full pallet to your parking area. You're going to need more than you think. Keep up the good work. Peace ✌️

Hello, I think I had paid someone to come and try to dig with a BIG excavator in stead of buying that little one, looks like it have a lot of problems maneuvering in the terrain??I suggest you take a look at girl in the woods or bush radical`s videos where they have videos HOW they find water, looks so so much easier, and I don`t think you can dig deep enough with that little excavator. Water can be quit deep in the ground and you have a lot of rocks around your cabin.🙏🙏Pray that you find water in one or another way.
