I was on a USCG Patrol boat in that area 30 years ago and remember the pucker factor of dodging rocks and lobster pots. Can't imagine doing it under sail alone!
@howtosailoceans14232 жыл бұрын
Lol, yes, and you didn't have a chart plotter 30 years ago. Those really help, though not with the lobster pots.

Kevin, 36 hours is fuzzy time in my book! When coffee will not work l have enjoyed a cup of hot jello which not only warms you up but give you that slight added energy!!! ⛵️👍

Jello, really? I have never tried that one. Agree, after about 30 hours of pushing non-stop coffee no longer works.

Kevin, It was great to give you a shout in Jackson Creek. I saw you sailing out of the creek under main. It looks like you made it to Hampton. Any possible windows for you to head offshore? Have a safe and enjoyable voyage.

Hi Al, I'm here in Hampton. Possible window early next week, however, ECMWF is showing very bad weather next Friday, so have to watch it.

Last I recall is Superstorm Sandy, and even then it wasn't too bad. Maine is pretty well off the path of tropical cyclones.

That’s my biggest question/fear! If you don’t have knowledge of an area, how do you know were the ledges, rocks and reefs are. What happens when you arrive at night?
@styx852 жыл бұрын
Chart plotters :) I'm not sure I'd want to arrive at a new destination at night and have to trust the chart, though... some charts are more reliable and accurate than others.
@robertgarbe63482 жыл бұрын
At night , you either trust a chart and your eyes, or the chart plotter that is up to date. Confusion happens if you try to use both. AND if you arn't familiar with your destination you don't come in at night, just hove to and wait for morning.

Hi, may I ask based on your wide experience - are there still any remote places on the planet where a boat could anchor and not be noticed by the authorities? i.e. i don't mean for criminal intent, but for example during Covid when no country would let boats anchor or come ashore. Is there any place remote enough to just stay out of sight? thank you!
@howtosailoceans14232 жыл бұрын
There a lots of islands and anchorages in Maine you could probably lose yourself in, I mean, so long as the authorities are not actually looking for you.
