"Hey everyone, in this video I'm going to share with you my last shift as an Amazon delivery driver. I've been doing this job for 2 years and while I've loved it, I've decided that it's time for me to move on.
I've had an incredible journey as an Amazon driver and I'm so grateful to all of my viewers who have supported me and my "day in the life" series. This is a big moment for me, and I wanted to document it and share it with all of you.
In this video, you'll get to see what it's like on my last shift and how I'm feeling about leaving this job behind. It's especially emotional for me because it's Christmas time, and I know that I'll be missing out on all the holiday cheer that comes with this time of year.
I hope you enjoy this video and thank you for watching. Don't forget to subscribe to stay updated on my future content

This is where the law stinks in the UK. Drive an HGV lorry you are governed by a Tachograph to prevent fatigue even if you travel halfway across the country for only 1 drop. But you can drive a small van for 8 to 10 and even more hour shift in and out of van 190+ times, up and down stairs and garden paths and be as shattered as this guy looks at the end of it and still be allowed to drive a motor vehicle. Doesnt make sense to me.

I did drive the same van as this guy as a former Amazon driver. My day was supposed to be 9hrs but it took me 11hrs. Started at 11am had almost 300 drops 😲

I did say my job was easier but not shorter I work a 12 hour shift on a regular basis.many hgv drivers in the Uk work 15 hour shifts the 9 hour and 10 hour rule is driving time not working time The big difference is the chasing on foot to deliver the parcel.where they get fit we get fat

Wouldn't be that bad if they hired enough people, one man doing 190 deliveries in a day is mental i'd refuse out of principle alone, i'm not reinforcing this delusion from middle management lol though i'd imagine that they give you more packages than they think you can handle on purpose to prevent you needing to go back to get more or having free time in the middle of the day, in that case the answer is simply don't do 190 focus on doing 150, their goal doesn't need to be yours and if they complain tell them to give you less packages then, what are they gonna do fire you when there's a massive deficit of couriers?

Why on earth would any one want this job I would never know. I’m 55 and started out as a white van driver back in the 80’s and back then I was doing 30 drops and that was tuff. 193 drops OMG. All you drivers need to get into the drivers union. This is totally against the law with no breaks for the entire day. I’m now a HGV driver if I was given 193 drops I would laugh at them and give them the keys and tell them off you go then. Running to every stop this is worse than prison and to top it all off your boss is the 2nd richest man in the WORLD.

It's been a pleasure to watch yhe series. Me being an amazon driver too, I know to well the hard work it takes to do the job. This peak period has been the hardest by far over 400 parcels daily. I respect you not airing your strong discontent at having to carry all those parcels to a customer who wasn't in. Its a daily struggle we as drivers have to deal with. AVD parcels are the baine of our lives. As drivers we are just monkeys to amazon nothing more than slaves. A company who think with nothing but for their own gain. No regards for the safety of the drivers and drivers have no one they can speak to about issues. I hope you have a good Xmas and a great new year.

Amazon could have made your life so much easier by allowing customers to track your van and by giving them a rough time estimation. Instead they just send customers a mail with the delivery date, and even the date is usually incorrect in the area where I live. That makes it very hard to stay home to wait for the delivery.

@BlaZzeD ThuG Where I live Amazon drivers cannot be tracked yet. Also, I would never install the Amazon app because it steals contact details from your phone + other privacy-sensitive data. Amazon, just like Facebook, don't care about your privacy. And for that reason I will never install their app. I did ask Amazon whether they would implement tracking via their website. So far nothing has been done.

@BlaZzeD ThuG I forgot to add that Amazon have a tendency to send parcels too early. Approx. 40% of my ordered items arrive 1 day before the indicated delivery day. That means I sometimes have to stay home for 2 entire days just to receive a few items. To make matter worse: you can't ask Amazon to group your items and deliver all of them on the same day. They want empty depots every afternoon. I don't know how this affects the drivers. They find themselves ringing the same doorbell a few days in a row.

Mate as an ex-delivery driver (Grocery), you'd swear that the delivery software reckons you have a Thunderbirds switch to just fuckin fly to the next drop when needed! Of course, it's all approved by some bigwigs who seldom set foot in a van themselves. Either you need another colleague in the van with you to make it bearable or you'd need to get paid double the going rate for all the stress, and even then, is it really worth it day in and day out?

The only way Amazon allows a smidgeon of a opportunity to leave honest critical feedback on a delivery driver is via direct seller feedback - just sent this thru that channel, let’s hope it arrives - ‘Youve emailed me to rate delivery - saying that ‘the item was left in your letterbox’ - it wasnt. Instead, the delivery chap, though he had ascertained I was in, instead of delivering to my flat/address, left it in the foyer of my location: a block of flats. Either you or he have lied. Not the first time.

Do a large parcel only delivery with Royal Mail. Usually 120 drops a shift but as it's all large bulky items there's nothing that fits through a letterbox so no quick drops and also with the large size parcels there are fewer 'safe places' you can leave stuff so it can slow you down a lot. Great if you have a lot of nice areas with big gardens / sheds and front porches but where I cover is 50% terraced houses with no front garden and loads of intercom access flats - nowhere safe you can leave stuff. It's a horrible feeling when you try and leave with a neighbour and either it's a night shift worker you've woken up for a parcel that's not theirs or they don't get on with their neighbour and they feel bad having to say no to you. Most people are nice enough but it's amazing how many people don't get on with their neighbour. None of our vans have shelves or containers like you do. We go into work, have to sort everything into duties and then try and stack it loose into the van like a game of Tetris - very often a far too small van so have to return 2-3 times and refill. Plenty of arguing and bullying from managers but you get used to the daily confrontation. If Royal Mail have their way and move to a model like Amazon with 'flexible' routes and no set hours where you have to complete regardless of how long it takes I'll be leaving. Running the service into the ground for (more) profit.

Thanks for sharing, I read that all! That sounds tough man, it’s time to look for a new job. I had it too the daily confrontation, and waking up night shift workers etc. it’s a lot to put up with. @@ZacJonesKZbin Not the company it once was. It's all about getting contracts from online retailers, especially next day stuff, and profitable leaflet delivery in centrally located high density residential areas. Walking up a garden path in a semi rural area to deliver a hospital appointment letter doesn't make profits. That's what 'modernisation' and 'productivity' are all about to management.

Way bck when I was a student (in the 1960s) I worked for a taxi firm during Christmas, on contract to the GPO delivering greeting telegrams. It was guarateed that each customer that you delivered to gave you 6d (reasonable in those days) so you ended up with a heap of 'tanners' in your pocket at the end of each long day. You were also offered enough drink to float a battleship (regrettfully refused), and, quite regularly, offered something else by the lady of the house if she was 'home alone'. Of course, with all the telegrams to deliver one did not have time to stop and avail oneself of the offerings - but, being young and red-blooded, return evening calls to the prettiest single ones were not unknown! How I ever got up some of the following mornings I'll never know.
