The F40's are my favorite diesel locomotives 😢 I will miss them a lot.

I still think they should have gone with either ACS-64 locomotives or even better go with ALP-45's. With the ALP-45, you have a diesel backup Incase the overhead electricity ever goes out. Exo doesn't have overhead electricity and they still use ALP-45's. With either the ACS-64 or the ALP-45, you wouldn't have to get rid of the cab cars. The EMU's definitely cost a lot more. I still think it's sad to see more F40's go. Those are such well built locomotives. Despite their age, they pretty much last forever as long as they are being cared for.

The station at 4:32 looks so creepy under that concrete ceiling. It looks totally sketchy during the day; I can't imagine what happens at night.

Same here. Thankfully there are other places still running F40s, most notably VIA rail in Canada, which is putting their fleet through another refurbishment!

I'm going to miss the F40s, now that they are retiring off of the CalTrain Network, the only Transit Systems that will have F40s remaining is CSX, NJT, Metro North (MTA), MBTA, and VIA Rail, and Metra

These huge trainsets of gallery and bilevel cars are a fixture of midwestern and west coast commuter railroads in the United States. They fully take advantage of the massive loading gauge of American rail lines. When arranged in long consists like this, they indeed accelerate quite slowly, hence the work Caltrain has done to replace them with EMUs. That said, they can be pretty nimble in shorter consists, like on New Mexico’s Railrunner service: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKuzmYWJgNOZmaMsi=AO1qa3sYNpwausuL

I'm confused. I keep hearing that Caltrain isn't operating diesel trains anymore, but doesn't Caltrain still need to operate diesel trains on the non-electrified portion of their line south of Tamien?
@DJHTransport2 ай бұрын
Yes, they still run diesels on that portion of the railroad. Many people have a misconception that the end of mainline diesel service means that *all* diesel service has ended.

Slow, noisy and polluting? Not what a train should be at all... I understand the nostalgia, and they had their place in history. But "had" is the keyword here. ;)
