The final press conference of Colonel Rob Schaffner at his final video store on Melrose Ave. It was first in San Pedro, then on Vermont in Los Feliz for many years until gentrification forced him out.

Thanks for your comment. I saw Alfredo many times while visiting both Mondo stores and occasionally would see Stevie but mostly heard about him.

My dad was la port police and we would go to the Pedro spot often after a run to Linas donuts. The stories he would tell.... 😅

I called this store back in the late '90's. I think I talked to the Colonel himself. And he was way cool. A couple of them had been on Music For Nimrods on KPFK around that time. They were friends of Dan the Board Op (host of the show). Anyway, sad he's gone. I think at that time things were more upbeat for them, and his mood reflected that. Stay Sick!

Where are the wolf-dogs? 🐺🐺🐺

The wolf-dogs were often at the stores, especially in the Vermont store. There was much grief when one of the dogs passed away. I recall a wolf-dog at the event but it ended up on the cutting room floor. Long live Mondo Video A Go Go.

@@HistoricLosAngelesBoxing I loved the wolf dogs and remember them well. They were a little bit scary, but that was a good thing because I think they helped to keep the store safe. I would have loved to have seen one of them in this video. Rob was such a vital person, I was heartbroken to learn he is no longer with us.

@@MothGirl007 I really rememeber Rob and his wolfsdogs that well, on Vermont and later on Melrose, where he brought in a whole litter of wolfdog-pups his dogs had breed at the time. That was fucking awesome, both parent dogs and the pups running arround . Rob had them behind the counter in the Melrose store.Fascinating to me at this time. He told me a lot about this dogs and to this very day I kept that in mind!

@@MothGirl007 it’s just something we used to say back in the day. It’s just a silly joke.

@@Drewlin383 No worries - he was a friend of mine back in the day and it took me a long, long time to grasp the fact that he became famous. I think it must have been kind of weird for him too - at least at first. I used to be at impromptu shows of his with like maybe 3 people in the audience so it was a shock when his music blew up.

@@MothGirl007 Oh!!! I totally thought you were talking about James Beck a regular and old friend of the Colonel. I just realized you thought I meant the musician. We’re crossing all kinds of wires! 🤣😆 Cheers to all the Becks!!💖🔥

@@Drewlin383 I thought maybe "always blame Beck" might have been a joking comment that Rob made because the neighborhood changed and became a lot more popular and gentrified with higher rents and a different crowd on Vermont, which drove the store out. Thanks for the clarification and sorry for the confusion. 🤣
