Heartbreaking to see this go. I love the Subway because it truly is a time capsule to another more beautiful world

Honestly should be preserved in an interactive exhibit in a larger transit museum, but also riders and the city at large deserve a modern system not running on ancient systems that are impossible to continue to maintain.

If G trains were to be sent to Forest Hills, not all of them have to run there. Some can short-turn at 21st St using the center track. Also, Forest Hills doesn’t have to be the local terminus as the tracks continue and 179th St, the last stop has a larger storage capacity.

Nice video. I wish you could have had a chance to see the controlroom. Quite a bit of the german railway system is still controlles that way, especially on second and third class routes. Keep your very explanative videos up, for me as a remebrance to the city i was born in. I loved riding the subway... red rooster, front car, and mom had a foldable stool for me so i could look out the front window.

wow they really dont build them like they used to... this is awesome to know that such ancient technology is so reliable that it survived a few decades.

Yeah, it's more a testament to the resourcefulness of the agency and signal maintenance staff. It hasn't lasted 9 decades unmaintained. It's literally being replaced because it's becoming prohibitively difficult to be maintained anymore.

So when you say the switches are activated by a "lever", do you me by a human in the tower pressing an electric switch, OR a human on the track throwing a switch manually?
@DJHTransport2 ай бұрын
It’s electro-mechanical. The physical lever controls the electrical actuation of the switch. The actual locking logic however is implemented fully mechanically, as the levers are physically interlocked with each other.

Eventually the iRT lines is gonna get CBTCS real soon. I have a real spriital feeling that the 6 Pelham line is gonna be the first line to get CBTC I'm telling you. I have noticeing that the 6 Pelham line be doing signal maintenances between Pelham and Westchester square. Including Manhattan I'm telling you. The Pelham 6 line is definitely starting to be like the 7 Flushing line. When the R62AS used to be on the 7 Flushing line they were doing the same exact thing doing signal maintenances and track maintenances and electrical improvements. I definitely know that something is definitely about to be switched around between the 4/6 lines Equipments I'm telling you.

They'll probably do the same with Bedford Nostrand tower as well.
@W2IRTАй бұрын
So what is the upshot of the work going on here? Is it just the tower that's being decommissioned, or will the crossovers be eliminated as well? And if it's just the tower, where will the interlocking be controlled from? I'm *guessing* QBP Master, but I haven't heard anything about this.
