So today cultivating you can see a plant every once in awhile quite often that shoots up above the rest of the plants that are near it and it's setting pods on that extension

I love growing beans they're a different beast. Mine are big and beautiful but a bit lacking on the pod count. Yours are packed!

Hey John the beans are looking good. I think the cultivation this year is paying off. Do you think it’s a setback to increased soil health activity, or maybe a wash, or no change at all? It makes sense to me to have the tools to adapt to years like the one you’ve had.

I will argue that if the soil has no oxygen in it that it's not moving forward in health

Jay fuhrer was here yesterday and we had a talk about that and he said there is no real right or wrong it's just at the end of the year have you maintained or gained carbon. And compacted soil with no oxygen is not going to gain carbon. What do we do a little bit of tillage or no-till it needs to be followed with a cover crop because the cover crop is what's going to add the carbon

@@jonstevensmaplegrovefarms3754 That makes sense to me. It seems like having some flexibility in methods while working towards a soil health goal long term, is key. (Unless you have ideal weather every year, ha ha)

You mentioned about not having as many nodules as you would like. What are your sulphur levels? I’m starting to focus on that along with alot of what you are doing. I applied humic acid on my beans and 3L if molasses 3 different times. Tall beans don’t necessarily mean big bean yields. Last year my beans were over waist high this year they aren’t but I think I still have as many or more pods than last year. Those beans look good. You have a great program going keep at it

Great point, Sulfur for us is a huge deal and often over looked. Yeah I fell for big beans before. ugh.

For no till i use Enlight and round up pre 10 days later, some dual and pursuit I thought 25 days after first pass some warrant, if any weeds are present chlethidom and cobra. If I can do a little tillage just enlighten up front, and then cultivate and warrant in season. Next year I am using rye, it did an unbelievable job before. Then cultivate, more covers and a little spray if I have to.

Huh, looks awful similar to what I've been playing with. I found I could add trace moly from straight sodium molybdate powder easily and much cheaper. 5lbs soluble powder mixed over every 25 or 20 acre load. For the first year or two, trying to approach that a little more aggressively. After that, as needed I suppose. I like the AEA products, but it was going to smoke me to get the moly required to give every acre a little build. We definitely need it

@@jonstevensmaplegrovefarms3754 so far I've had good luck getting the straight goods powder from Alpha Chemicals. When I did the pound/$ comparison vs the liquids containing the same, it seemed worth a try. For foliar, the rate I said is exactly what I tried on beans, no issues observed. I think for a soil applied app (like side dress or Ydrop) we could double that easy enough if needed. It mixed well with other stuff, no issues in tank

@jonstevensmaplegrovefarms3754

If you have to ask... I thought The Source was $12 an acre the sugars are about 2 to $3 each the potassium is about $8 and the nitrogen product was about 10

So on a regular soy beans I'd probably be at 30 to $40 what if I listen to my retailer I would be about $40 and then that would not have included micros and it would not have been at the right time or place
