As someone who can’t chop fast…I’d suggest everyone add an extra hour to this time crunch…it’s my experience in every recipe…
@kiltedcripple2 жыл бұрын
For most people, I'd bet this much cutting is two hours. I love watching these videos, but I'm a very competent home chef and I disregard his time measurements every time. I know what I'm doing and I can't hit his time suggestions (or often budget either, but I digress) but especially when I look at my sisters in law who pretty average home cooks, it would take them an hour to drop three cans of Ro-Tel tomatoes and chiles with a block of Velveeta into their crock pots because they're not particularly organized. They also don't season food, I've spoiled them since marrying into the family, it's been nearly 2 decades and they're still asking me about garlic powder and how it's different from garlic salt. I make spice blends for the households at Christmas just so they can have one jar, measure out one fixed amount of spice, and make a pot of chili, for example. They all work, they're kids are still toddlers, they don't have time for this prep kitchen work, so when we visit, that's what I do, prep kitchen to set them up for future meals. I oil their cutting boards and wooden utensils, I sharpen all their kitchen knives, I clean their fridges, reorganize their Tupperware, etc, to make life when they go to use that stuff easier.

Filming tacked on about 30 mins to this whole thing - we reset cameras and moved them around for each shot. Really full speed this can take 2 hrs 30. I think you’re selling yourself short! Cutting all veg took maybe 5-8 mins while filming. Even if I went slow (and I’m no means even close to a pro chef) it would probably take me 15 mins max. I wouldn’t tack on an extra hour or two to cut some vegetables :)

Made the garlic parm knots today for practice, (hey, the teams practice too) they came out fantastic. I was a little concerned when I added the butter to the dough, it got really greasy (I just may have softened it a little bit too much), but the finished product was perfect. Only negative was that my "extra aged" parm wasn't hard enough to give me the fine grating I wanted. That must be the difference between made in Wisconsin vs Italy. Pretty confident now that tomorrow's knots will be raved about. (BTW, one error in the video - he mentions using unsalted butter for the garlic butter sauce, however the linked recipe says to use salted.)

I made the mistake of attempting this spread for the game. First, the ingredients have almost no overlap between recipes. Amylase is nearly impossible to find locally. Thai Basil was also no where to be found. Lots of wastage. Way more than 3 hours cooking. Never even made it to the wings. Whatever was made tasted good, but he definitely overstated the easiness of this spread.

I don't know where you're getting your deli platters that they are "sliced and sitting in there for 14 days", but years ago when I worked at the Food Lion Deli, all of our meat and cheese trays were made to order the night before you scheduled to pick them up and as long as you weren't ordered them on a super high volume day like the day of the Superbowl, pretty much any other day of the year we could have them ready same day.

I would love to see someone not a professional chef that did all of this, let alone in 3 hours.

In a home setting with regular equipment, a home cook can do it in 4 and a half houts

If you were smart you would do it with help and not alone like josh lol

I can do all this in just under 3 hours . It's all about prep and time management honestly just start the day before if you think it's gonna take you a while . Day before make the cheese board ,then prep all your ingredients and refrigerate . Then on the day it's just cooking and can be done in just over 1 hour and a half . 👌

I feel like a video like this should have a grocery list. Idk if all this can be purchased and available the day of. I didn’t watch the super bowl but this seems good for a good family gathering.

You can also do guack by just cubing everything and not mashing. Saves even more time. I enjoy better this way... I would eat that sandwich alone if it were kosher... and that wing sauce looks amazing...
