i wanted to hop in here and just say a big thank you for everyone who has watched this. also i wanted to tell you how much we appreciate the feedback..all of it. we are aware of how different this episode is to our previous ones and for the most part that was very intentional. we wanted to add some new flavors to lmt because we wanted to see a better and more refined product than we had produced in the past. the criticism about us being too produced, and not enough time of us goofing around (questions not to ask) are all great notes and i do agree to some extent. we will be back at the drawing board doing some tweaking to do our best at finding the sweet spot for this show. we elevated the product because we want last minute trips to be more than a vlog. we want someone who doesn’t normally know us to still be able to enjoy this experience. but with that said you guys and your opinions mean a lot and there are a lot of really valid points below. we appreciate you. and we are listening.

julien solomita Julien god this is so good. I'm so proud of you, and you and collin and your team should be super proud too. Honestly I think it's my favorite episode of the whole show so far. I'm so stoked that you guys took the chance and made so many changes. That takes guts. Can't wait to see where this goes.

I am so inspired by the editing style of this series. I personally love the upped production value, and appreciate all the montages you guys put in to this episode. The only thing I'd say I missed was the monologue at the end, I always loved hearing Julien wrap up the show with his final thoughts of the town. Besides that, I thought you guys represented Collinsville in a great way, and I think it's awesome that you got to hang out with the mayor for a bit! I can't wait for SE2 EP2!

Another thing I really missed is Julien’s ending monologues where he tells us about the impact the town had one him and what makes it special, those were my favorite parts of the episode because it left me with a really emotional and special feeling that gets tied to that place and inspires me to look for my own places that give me that special feeling
@222browneyes
@222browneyes 6 жыл бұрын
On the other hand, if you have those monologues on every episode they can end up sounding a bit repetitive and lose their impact and authentic feeling. Sometimes they can feel a little bit like shoe-horned sentimentality if they come at the end of a particularly upbeat episode.

This gave me chills. Collin enjoying the swing with the mayor was the literal meaning of joy, and Julien's true gift of being able to use dry sarcasm and thoughtful simple questions to always spark and encourage communication between all walks of life is one of the best things to watch. Creatively, I know you'll never stop "tweaking" and your style will always be evolving, but I have to say that right now in this moment...you truly have a way of taking the moments you're sharing with the people that mean the most to you, and post-editing them into absolute works of art. Keep doing what you do!

I love how people are being so polite and giving constructive criticism. Going through the comments, I see a lot of peopls writing full, proper paragraphs giving you praise, but also giving their advice for improvement. Unlike a lot of viewers on youtube, they haven't come to simply bash you with a "that sucked" or "they changed I hate this." People are taking the time to tell you exactly what aspects they enjoyed, and which they feel could be improved upon. I don't know, I guess I am just impressed and happy to see the comments section used in a positive, constructive way.

As much as I'm really enjoying how much the production value of LMT has improved, and how your mission is changing to give the places you visit more of a spotlight... I don't know if I like how scripted some of the conversations between Collin and Julien feel, and how much of the other genuine conversations we're missing. I truly enjoyed the listening to the 'holy shit where are we sleeping tonight' and 'dude what are we going to do today? go camping? sick' and them just chatting in the car on the way to their destination type conversations. I know you guys can only fit so much into an episode, and I know I can just go watch vlogs if I want that. But I feel like there could be a bit better of a mix between what I just talked about, and the cool drone footage, montages and time-lapses. I still want to feel like I'm watching them, not a TV show. Regardless, thank you guys so much for such a cool and fun debut episode of the next chapter of LMT. I truly hope we get to see it grow and evolve even more. All the love!
@Megan9689
@Megan9689 6 жыл бұрын
Especially the last scene on the scooters. Seemed really stilted, if not scripted. Love them and understand they're trying to really make this bigger and better and really take off (I know lots of people were saying they hoped something like Netflix might pick them up) but it does seem to miss the older, more candid feel. Just different.

Yeah, to be honest, I didn't like the video at all. I am from STL. I was really disappointed in how little they showed. They only showed the ketchup bottle about 100 times, and then them playing on a playground. They went to st. louis and literally showed nothing of the city at all. They had a camera crew there with them, it means they had more time and hands-free to really explore but instead most of it felt forced and fake....

My favorite so far. I love that you guys met with the mayor of the town and talked about the history of these small towns. Thank you!

I really truly love this series, and im so excited to see where Season 2 takes us . That being said, this sort of felt empty, hollow. It feels lacking of its usual charm and beloved quirks. The scenic shots and editting were SPOT ON, but the rest felt lacking. i feel like we barely gave any focus to the locale and its heritage and most of the focus was on filming and laid out plots and scenes. and as many have said before me, Juliens narrative at the end of it all regarding their time was sorely sorely missed. Im still very excited for the future of LMT and cant wait to see where else we'll go !

I've been reading through the comments and realized that the goofiness and joking around and the 'genuine' feel is something that comes from the feeling of 'familiarity'. All of a sudden there are other people involved and that can change the dynamics for a bit, before it all goes back to normal. I'd just give it some time, the potential is still there :)) And the cinematography is *Julien's beloved sign for delicious*

I love my hometown. We are also considered to be the horseradish capitol of the world. And for the record Catsup is what Heinz called it in the 1870's. And actually it wasn't until the 1970's that most people started calling it ketchup. Either way I've never liked Brooks Tangy Catsup. I was more of a Del Monte fan myself. That might have gotten me run out of town 40 years ago. Anyway horseradish and "catsup" is what we're known for. So basically the ingredients for cocktail sauce. If we only we were also the shrimp capitol of the world, we could rule the planet.

When I looked and saw the video was almost done I was like....but they barely showed anything....they went to Collinsville and only showed the ketchup bottle and playing on a playground....they went to STL and only showed them throwing axes in a place every city has. Where was Cahokia Mounds? Where was the Arch? This video could have been so much better...I feel disappointed.

Hey guys! So as opposed to most people in the comments I'm actually brand new to this show and haven't watched season 1. I am a professional editor and producer from Toronto and I think I might have a few minor points that will improve the feel of the show! I have been a long follower of Julien's vlogs and let me tell you, I don't know many people that are as good as creating a mood and vibe with their videos as you are. Julien, hear me when I say you're an amazing editor and your vlogs chill me out and I love watching them. I know you mentioned this episode was a whole different workflow and again, I haven't seen previous episodes, but from what I could tell you actually have big obstacles that even professional editors would have a problem with. It seems all your cameras are very different and possibly even shooting different formats? They all look to have different colour spaces as well. That not only makes it difficult to match in colour and look, but even the feel and movement each camera has is very different. That works against you when you're quickly cutting in between them because the differences are so stark that it's hard to adjust to it, specially when it's the same scene on multicam - it's just very hard to adjust because they're such different looks. In terms of editing that makes for some cool montages cause your shots look different and beautiful, but it makes hard to intercut a whole speaking scene together, specially when your cuts (in those instances) seem very fast and not necessary. A major thing you should keep in mind when cutting multicam together is only cut if absolutely necessary. That means only changing a shot if it's adding any info. If the shot you already have works fine, then don't chance it until you have to. Don't cut from a medium 2 shot to a medium 2 shot cause it's just very disorienting. My biggest turn off with the episode was honestly that - which is a VERY easy thing to fix! If you wanna learn more about storytelling cutting you should read Walter Murch's book 'In the Blink of an Eye'! It's one of my favourites and soooo freaking good. Honestly, other than that my only other comment would be just avoid adding things that don't build the story. Right now I felt a lot of your sequences weren't adding anything and made me feel disoriented mostly cause we didn't know what was going on - we didn't see the behind the scenes of you guys making these choices and coming to these decisions. Let's see more of that! It's what makes you unique! Build sequences that add to your story and aren't just random shots that don't mean anything to your audience. Every shot your putting in your show should add information and tell a story to your audience - that's how we stay engaged! I hope this doesn't come across as mean or rude in any way, I'm a big fan and wanna get into this show much more - and you're very close to making it amazing! All these things are easy to fix! And hey if you ever need any help or someone to brainstorm with hmu. I'd be happy to help! :) ig @zhexenis twitter @thehugeioio

I gotta be honest, first off its beautiful. Like honestly this is amazing and I'm so happy that you guys are able to expand the show like this. However, I know its hard to adjust from being just two people into having a whole crew, but this just felt less intimate. Not illegitimate but definitely less personal. Idk if it was the combination of more scripted scenes mixed with less just conversations with the two of you. Or if it was just me getting used to the style but before it kind of felt like I was on the trip with you while this seemed more of me watching a showcase of the trip. The editing and overall tone of the video was stellar and I'm so excited to watch the rest of the season. Don't beat yourself up over the upload we all know you've been busy and put a lot of work into the show and it definitely shows! Love you both and keep on adventuring!!!..... Last minute-ly

I loved this episode! Though, I will say I agree with some of the feedback Julien referenced in his pinned comment. In addition to missing some of the “goofing off,” I also missed seeing some of the planning and coordinating of the logistics of a trip that is so last minute. That has always been part of what is so interesting to me is seeing how exactly you pull off a trip like this super last minute, logistically. I know the goal for season two is to up the production value and make this more than “just a vlog,” but for me, personally, I am really interested in those sort of BTS type moments that had been included in season one like booking flights and coordinating transportation and hotels and activities and routes etc. Just thought I’d mention it in case the feedback is helpful. For this viewer, specifically, I love seeing that type of content! Despite missing some of that though, I do still think this episode was stellar. Beautifully shot, conceptualized, and edited. I can’t wait for more episodes! Sending love and support to y’all, Waffsicle!
