Last Night of Winter - Reaper Boss is Cancer! How to Win Anyway!

This video is a combination tutorial and review of the final boss fight for the Last Night of Winter demo, for game review platform, GameRound.co. Great to see more of this kind of in-depth commentary! Appreciate you detailing your thoughts so well. I know the developer is looking at videos for feedback and such so hopefully this is very valuable! Agreed about making the hitboxes match the in game sprites! That's definitely an important thing for making the gameplay fair for the player. Also, the point you mentioned about reducing the player's stun time after being hit might be a good change just for the gameplay in general even beyond this particular boss. However, outside of those things I didn't think the boss was too difficult after understanding his pattern. Everything you described was accurate, I just think there are more opportunities for the melee attack in the windows after the boss swings (though like you said, you have to be close) and after the boss's spin attack before the attack cycle restarts if you stay close instead of backing away. Like you said, getting more hits in will charge concentration for the special attack. As for the weapon's melee range, Last Night of Winter works like Megaman where after beating a boss you get his weapon, so it's only the initial one with that range. Did you find the secret boss? You can fight him before this final boss and use the other weapon which has more melee range but lacks a throwing attack. There's also another bonus item if you do a sidequest in the jail which helps out against this boss specifically. In any case, again great to see insightful in-depth commentary! It'd be great to hear more of your thoughts. And if you do like it then it'd be great to see what you think of other bosses when the full game comes out!

Thanks! Honestly didn't think anyone would watch it so very nice surprise to have such positive responses =) On the opportunity for melee: I'm sure there's something I'm missing but, if you look at 6:08, for instance, I don't see how you'd get more than 1 swing in before he swings. Then he disappears, and, unless he pops up right next to you, there's not time to hit him on the subsequent attacks. Maybe there's a way to dodge past his Spin and get a bit more time to attack from behind? I tried it and couldn't get it to work. Unless you're saying to just eat a hit to stay close. That's an option but very much not my playstyle. Valuable info about the weapons! I had no idea. When I got the Candelabra I just compared the stats, and they weren't better so I think I didn't try it! Didn't occur to me it would have a different ability set. *SMH* *After your prompt, I went back in and found the frog lair. Unfortunately, I've scoured the whole place and cannot figure out how to open the gate leading to the final Eye (the one through the door that's right below the exit to the 1st Frog boss on the right side). Frustrating =/ Thanks for the tips!

@@catbert7 Thanks for the polite response! Always great to meet someone that's both talented and sociable. If you are going back and don't mind spoilers: the prison keys item is a key-ring with multiple keys, and the description says it can open locks (plural). So if you haven't tried opening all the locked prison doors, there's secrets to find behind them.

@@NobodyNobody0000 I don't mind spoilers. I thought I opened all the cells. I'm not sure I'm curious enough to go back and check every one. Already did so much backtracking. I think I'm played out on the tedium ;p Would finish the Frog area if I knew how, though. Or are you saying the two are connected?

@@catbert7 Oh yeah, you got it then! Since you said you don't mind spoilers, the frog area is where the secret boss with the other weapon is. You need to find the three stone eyes and put them in the frog statue in the middle, then you get dropped into the secret boss fight. As for figuring out the frog area it is kind of maze-y, there's a left and a right side with one stone eye on one side and two on the other side. For the frogs you can kind of cheese them with the bell's throwing attack (if you get a good angle on them you can out-range their tongues) or if you didn't restart and have the candelabrum the scythe can hit them through unbreakable obstacles like boxes while they can't hit you (or you can use the ranged attack of that weapon as well). If you'd feel up to fighting him it'd be great to see a video like this on what you thought of the secret boss too! You've posted the most in depth video about the boss fight so I'll send the developer a link to your video if he doesn't find it this week and if you had anything more to add about the other boss (or the rest of the game) that'd be great!

@@NobodyNobody0000 Right, I'm not having problems with the enemies (though the tongues certainly caught me by surprise a few times and the water is the devil!), I just can't figure out the last gate to the last Frog mini-boss, to get the last Eye. I got the one from the left side and the one from the mini-boss at the back of the right-side, but I had to give up on finding whatever lever opens the gate just under the exit (drop-down) from the right-side Eye. I went through the entire frog area multiple times and couldn't find it.
