Last Oasis How to PvP - Directional Combat - Parrying - Feint Attacks Tips / Tricks

Here are a few quick tips and tricks I have learned about the basics of combat in last oasis and how to apply those to PVP. If not already doing this, these tips will help solo players or smaller groups improve their skills. Let me know if you have anything I can improve on!

You should really consider unchecking fluid blocking in the options-->inputs. Fluid blocking can fuck you over big time when having to move your mouse left while having to block right.

If you don't like not being able to move your camera to face your opponent while blocking in say the opposite direction you are turning, turn OFF FLUID BLOCKING. In "Options > Input".

That blocking you're using is called fluid blocking, its an option in the config, and when disabled you only block where you flick. Some of the experts prefer fluid blocking disabled as if you attack your enemy from one side and move to his other side the enemy will move the camera to face you and take the hit. People already talked about chambering, but you can also cancel an attack into a block which works well with rupus. One thing to take in mind is that chambering, kicks and feints work better against players than rupus.

@Avatar Ang I was talking more about how it can be more effective on players as rupus quite often will block a chambered attack, while players frequently get hit. Not viable on large combats, but on small skirmishes where there's minimal lag its quite doable.

@@Cognx12 Bit late on this reply lol, but even if you have fluid blocking on there's a trick you can use. Hold both mouse buttons to lock your block in place, you can now freely move your camera without changing your block direction.

Fighting rupu is perfect practice honestly they are better than most players. The white deaths are actually stupid good. They move fast, swing fast and block a lot.

@Clockwork Yellow Rupus, White Death and Shaman Rupus are the hardest I have encountered.

I'm brand new to the game and I'm finding no problem farming the white deaths and yellow rupus as a fresh spawn with only a beating stick or axe, really helps getting those pelts after the zergs hit I just hunker down in a camp and wait for the loot to respawn after clearing the rupu I feel like alot of mount and blade multiplayer helps on this game because the combat is so similar. It's almost identical with the directional based combat.

When I saw parrying on the video I thought you'd be talking about when you attack the same direction right before you get hit and it blocks and hits at the same time, which is called chambering. Are you referring to blocking as parrying?

Yeah, I believe you are talking about the feint attacks? I touch on them but dont get into too much detail.

@@Cognx12 I'm talking about something called chambering, which is done by attacking in the same direction as the incoming attack right before you get hit. There's a certain sound that goes off when you do it & you both block the attack and throw an attack of your own

Only thing I might add you don't talk about. Is dodging staying just out of reach or moving out of the way. You do need some points in movement to do this good it's basically kitting. Works well right now because there are no ranged weapons to really speak of.

Not really. You get grappled by the enemy and all the point you put into mobility don’t mean anything if you can sprint do to constant grapple spam

Hunter W what server are you one. Because on NA West that’s what everyone does is grapple spam in fights so you can’t run and heal. It doesn’t do much to me since I have a wing suit lol I just go up and leave fall heal repeat

General rules is, ignore 2-handed weapons. They are slow and until the devs balance combat, There's no downside to spamming attack button with a faster weapon.

I'd more call it riposte than a parry, although parry is required in order to riposte.

Its not parry or riposte, it's chambering.. a mechanic from mount and blade. Blocking with your sword is a parry, chambering is where you time your attack with the opponent for a parry and attack at same time

Hey so ur refering to blocking as parrying there is actually a parry mechanic differnt weapons have differnt timings for it but u can swing through someones attack and hit them withour getting hit ur self.

@@Cognx12 ALSO NOT TO BE PICKY but u should turn off fluid blocking its somthing i abuse ahainst players who use it. If u sidestep around them in an attempt to get behind them while attacking from the opposite side that u r moving. This makes it very hard for them to face uuu and block ur attack at the same time since they have to move their block u. And if they do move to block u can cancel it and attack their back. This forces the enemy to make extremely erradicate movement to block and face u and can make them do a lot of mistakes u can punish. Also i recommend turning off hit markers and learning the animations since hit markers can be very buggy at times especially against multiple opponements and doesnt always register feints and end up confusing u. Srry this was long winded i love the melee combat and spend a lot of time practicing it lol.

@@Cognx12 so ive been tryimg to master the parry with some players. I can do the top attacks pretty easily but the side attacks are harder for some reason? Idk of its latency or somthing but as of rn in a pvp fight i feel like the timing for parrying is to difficult especially with how much damage players can dish out in one strike. Almost doesnt seem worth it since they can block it anyways it isnt guranteed.

You ever tried to parry attack where you attack in the same direction as your enemy so you'll block and hit your opponent at the same time.

How does it show you the indicator direction of the attack I can’t get it to show on mine.

@@Cognx12 The white/red needle when the rupu attacks is the indicator he's talking about. It popped up a lot in the video, telling you which direction to block. I find that it shows up most often when the camera is zoomed in halfway or more. The farther out the zoom, the less likely it is to show up.

I feel like the default settings are inverted, if i do a charge attack in a arc, it swings in the opposite direction of the arc im turning - I did not feel like i learned something new, the heavy battle axe (1 hand) has 80 in speed, its the quickest speed for its damage, decent range too, it can also chop wood x3
