Clear Creek is one of the last untouched, pristine bayous in Harris County. For a city like Houston known as Bayou City, it's ironic that so few of these waterways remain intact. This story chronicles the natural beauty of the Clear Creek area, along with its ecological significance. Learn more about water issues in Texas at www.tpwd.state....

I remember as a kid I would walk about a mile until I got to the creek. It was quiet and peaceful for the longest time. But ever since urban sprawl kicked in, it’s never been the same since.

I remember walking to Clear Creek and do some fishing. I would walk the two miles just to get away and relax with nature. I would see deer, snakes, song birds, hawks, rabbits and ever a bobcat a time or two. But stupid humans have destroyed the creek of my youth.

Houston area residents and companies needs to stop dumping trash into Clear Creek and all of our waterways. An all out effort needs to be put in place to preserve this beautiful creek.

Houston has always had flood problems since day 1. I’m surprised since it’s founding that there has been no effort to preserve the bayous and wetlands which are known to help with flood control and improve water quality.

Armand Bayou is still protected. Over towards Baytown there are still lots of deer, gators, Bobcats, and other wild life.

I love going there, 2 dollars for children, 4 for adults. I would also recommend Challenger Park, really cool place, very beautiful.

North of houston next to Houston lake , there currently taking down hundreds of acres of forest for development. By the time you know it.. the lakes and streams will be polluted.

@@xhtownx1524 There is a ton right by Challenger Park and in some properties behind the neighborhood just south of us and behind our neighborhood and house. Sadly they are starting to clear the land to connect Beamer to Nasa Expressway.

I wish people would just enjoy or at least just look around them, and see the nature. People think for nature you have to go to Colorado or the amazon, when actually its right at you backdoor!

Is there any way to save this bayou from the Houston octopus-- development? This Harris County area must have been a beautiful place once.

it still is but its going away fast. i stay in the surburbs of houston and i walk along the bayous and venture into the woods all of the time. ive seen gators, bob cats, boars, deers, and black bears. it sucks because theirs so much development going on in Houston right now i see deer on the side of the road on a daily because the forest are being destroyed.

Bricksta88MoB Blackbear? I mean... I believe you but I have lived here all my life and never seen one, or heard of anyone seeing one this close to the city. I have heard of many reports in East, Texas. When I lived in Tallahassee, FL I hunted on a little piece of property near Natural Bridge, and had a few black bear there.

Hey Bricksta88Mob,you must be at least 200 years old, because bear have been hunted out of Houston for at least since the late 1830's.I don't think even Sam Houston took a bear in Harris Co .back then.
