Watching these videos brings to mind something I hadn't thought of before. I have played this game through about 50 times. Paid close attention to the environments and taken many screenshots. As I watch these images and the music here without the dictation of players or characters and just the places, things, and objects I start pulling stories out of the landscapes. Doubtless, the developers created these areas with story in mind - abandonment and desolation. I see an unkempt patch of grass on the campus ground I think about the maintenance men not there to care for the facilities, long gone. I see cars parked next to security gates and fencing I think about those desperate and still alive trying to jump those barriers to survive, long gone. I see bathrooms in disrepair I think of the students who frequented them during peaceful times of study and carefree living, long gone. There is a story in all of it. Paying attention to the things we always rush by and pay no mind -it forces one to think about how they got to that condition years before when they were abandoned just the way we see them now. AMAZING!

The university has such a tragic story, too. The students' diaries as they deal with being abandoned, starved, and watching their friends unalive themselves. Did some of the bullies befriend their victims out of desperation? How did the apocalypse change the teacher-student dynamic? You're right, there was so much storytelling and lore hidden in the backgrounds. Things Joel would see & notice, growing up in "our time" but bits that Ellie wouldn't. Last of Us still stands up well on its own. The 2nd game does too, but it's tragic how it's buried under Druckman's moralizing, how he wants to paint Joel as evil and Abby some Mary Sue savior. Ah well.

@@MsYunaFires I don't think they tried to paint either as one dimensional like that. The point is that BOTH of them had good AND evil in them. They both thought they were on the right side, and they were the villain in each other's stories. I think the point was that who is good and who is bad is not just black and white in a world like that.

Yeah absolutely true, this is something I’ve often thought about too when playing the game in its many environments that have been long abandoned and forgotten about. Another thing I would always personally think when playing through the games as well, is how it relates to environments I’m familiar with in real life. What would they look like if they too were abandoned in such a way? And how would I feel returning and seeing them that way after 20 years of desolation and vacancy? It’s powerful stuff man, and it really makes you wonder and put things into perspective.

@@abellabarbie personally I never would need Abby. Just like I didn’t need raiden in place of solid snake. That was a totally disagreeable move in my book. Both games. (Metal gear solid 2)

@@djohnworthy1040 the 4k is so refreshing! Last of us ambience music stuff until These new 4k posts was all 1080 and doubling the resolution makes it so much more enjoyable! I’m Sure it was a world of Work to Get all This done. I assume it’s all PC footage since the camera is so free roam? Plus no characters shown.

The song is called All Gone by Gustavo Santaolalla, though keep in mind that there are different versions of it. The one closest to the one you marked is All Gone (Aftermath) at around the 0:32 mark of the original song (find it on Spotify or even here on KZbin). I mention this because the songs in this video don’t seem to be the full original versions. To avoid copyright infringement, the creator of the video likely edited the songs, possibly another tool to modify them slightly or created covers with different instruments. That said, I actually enjoy these versions even more! For example, my favorite is the violin version played at 40:33 of the song The Path by Gustavo Santaolalla. The slower pace of the violin or cello gives it a deeper resonance and an even more emotional touch, at least for me! I hope this helps! 🤪

No, this can't be! 🥴 I feel so dumb and frustrated with myself now! I cannot BELIEVE I missed the volume 2 album!!! Ugh, now I'm gonna have to listen to it while I replay this video! 🤪 But, this means I now just have 2 more mysterious melodies to find, the TLOU 2 trailer melody and one from the series. 🧐 Thank you for letting me know, then I guess the songs are the original version.
