@@marcantoinelab12321 sadly the language itself is not taught by many people nowadays. It’s vast, and differs from one tribe to the next. Hence why it can be hard to even find those who still speak the language… I’m more of what you would call a “Urban Native” I’ve left the reservation long ago and made my own out side my culture. Even the little bit I know from my own family is scarce and dying. It’s just what happens over time. So, I believe the Natives in this scene are Alaskan Indian. So I can’t tell you for sure what they are saying but judging by the expression it might be self explanatory. It’s certainly a blast to see representation especially within my own culture. Made me laugh.

I think the difference is in tone-Pascal's Joel is less explosive than in the videogame in all senses. Even when he does go violent it's not really in an action-hero sense. It's a difference that I appreciate for its sublety-makes the world feel more believable and grounded than if he was throwing punches and risking getting shot point-blank all the time

@@Scaredwetpants I felt it was super strong actually. Letting players know too early who Abby is and why she did what she did would likely weaken the impact of the revelation. The idea was for the players to be all in in Ellie's quest and then realize "oh fuck, what did i do ?" (it didn't work for plenty of people, i get it). The main issue with game for me is the length of the gameplay parts between the main story beats. Wich shouldn't be a problem anymore in the show given how the approached part 1 in that regard. But regardless, yeah, Abby's actress will face tough times. But i'm sure she'll be prepared for it, Neal know that for sure now.

I liked the shows version of Henry and Sam. The context is very different: show Henry is kind and warm, he even says he's never killed a man before. Therefore the scene of him shooting the warning shot, then Sam, I felt is Henry acknowledging that he has to be the one to kill his own brother, and not anyone else, and doing so, he can't bear the burden of it. I also think Joel realises what Henry might do to himself, not to Joel or Ellie, and that to me makes the scene more human, as Henry is only in personal agony towards his situation: game Henry still seems to be angry, but you get the feeling that show Henry is completely distraught. Tldr I think the show is trying to pick up even more on the personal character struggle side of the zombie apocalypse, rather than the action and violence of it as portrayed in the game.

the scene in the house is not Joel mourning Sarah. he is so enraged at the though of what happened that he is *warning* her. he is saying 'Ellie if you keep going down this road, I will not be held liable for what I will do to you.' Sarah's death is the worst moment of Joel's life. It should be much more of a sore topic.

14:06 Another thing to point out about Henry's death (credit to a comment from a different video) It cuts to joel showing his reaction and that he flinched and a bit shaken by it, showing his humanity rebuilding instead of a stone faced "oh he/she died, pity that". Really shows how joel hardened demeanor just slightly crack has and adds a lot to his sense of compassion.

I took the scene with Ellie and Sam to be Ellie trying to comfort him in his inevitable death. Yes Ellie is a kid but so is Sam, so the child logic of “mixing my healthy blood with your bad blood will cure you” is kinda relevant. That was until she said she was actually trying to cure him so idk.

In episode eight, it honestly feels like a segment that shows how damaging the mind can become in an apocalypse. David and his group are struggling to survive, eating human flesh because there’s very little alternatives, but the more they rely on it, the more they get used to it, and the more you get used to it, the more appealing it becomes. The eating is a disturbing scene for me because it feels like a nightmare. I Imagined myself as a survivor in that room, sneaking by for one reason or another, accidentally get their attention (by stepping on a plate ;p)So many hungry people see me and just stare at me. This is probably not the way i should see it, but I do, and it’s psychologically unnerving, and I love shit like that.
@raybob8668
@raybob8668 Жыл бұрын
Also yeah I know they don’t know it’s human meat, (except for David and a select few) but I’m just talking about it as though they did. I think it’s also more unnerving if they did know and ate the food anyways, and those who didn’t… well David knew what to do with them.

Overall, I fucking loved the show, but I do share your complaint that whenever the show tried to do the game dialogue word for word that it fell kinda flat. However, my complaint isn't about the confrontation in episode 6, idk why but that version of the argument worked well for this version of the characters (for me at least), the one where it didn't work for me was in the finale when Joel Kills Marlene. Pedro's "you'll just come after her" and "zoned out" body language when he shot her just completely fell flat. The aggression in the line delivery and the body language when Joel shoots Marlene in the game is so much more impactful and cements the idea that Joel is making a deliberate choice, a choice that a part of him knows may come back to haunt him. That complaint aside, I fucking loved the show, Bella Ramsey was a perfect Ellie, and I'm nervously excited for season 2. Craig has proven his passion for the source material and I have full confidence that he'll find a way to adapt part 2 to television.

I like this argument and these suggestions. I would also like to add that when force changed by the fists that a small 1 second debuff preventing manual weapon changing would occur, because anyone who gets hit can just swap immediately back to their original weapon. This works twofold making it so the Heavy going in with melee doesn't get punished super hard for missing a swing, and this also incentivises the person being punched to go with the flow and try to kill the Heavy going in with fists with whatever is in their hands, or back away and hope their team kills the madlad. This also makes Demoknight very helpful when fighting a fists spamming heavy because the Demoman is already at full effectiveness. And you already shown that guns with a high DPS at midrange will still have an advantage against the Heavy going in fists swinging, since, well, that's what they're made for.

youre so right about the henry and sam scene (yall know the one) and i really think youre spot on about it being a result of the body language. i had similar feelings despite REALLY resonating with henry and sam's story in the show as an eldest sibling who had to be the primary caretaker for my siblings, and it was nice to see the point articulated in a way that made me have the 'AHA!' moment to realize that's what it is. The way Henry reacts breaks my HEART in the game; I think the shock is a fine decision and all, I can't imagine I'd be able to process what happened in his shoes... But Henry cycling through every possible emotion, limply holding the gun out toward Joel as a barrier between them as he continues to close in on himself and blame himself, immediately swallowed by the grief and trapped in his rage at himself before feeling like there was nothing left, no way out... It was visceral. It made me cry just seeing the clip again in the video

I think The Last of Us show has done the two key things a good adaptation of a video game should strive to do: 1) It shows the non-gaming world why TLOU game fans love the game and gets them to fall in love with the story too, and 2) It still leaves a reason for people to play the game, as certain parts of the story diverge in ways that may leave a different (not necessarily better or worse, but definitely different) impact on viewers/gamers than what adaptation of TLOU they experienced first made.

Cool video Bricky! Didn't watch it till the end yet but I do find the side by side format you are doing astounding! Since I have not played the game I would probably be unable to judge it any other way than what the show provides. And I would like to make a suggestion for a new review on the Metro series. I would love to see it covered since Metro is one of my all time favorites when it comes to post apocalypse games and there really isn't any big review channel that has done it yet. I do wanna warn you about the voice acting though. It is in almost every language pretty desynced if you are looking at an uncovered mouth. I don't know which voice pack to recommend but I would personally either suggest english or russian. The voice acting in english is pretty good apart from the desync. Especially for the loading screens but if you actually pick the idea up and do review it, Then please, I absolutely beg of you to narrate the loading screen sections yourself that would be awesome! I hope you do read this and maybe put my idea on a bucket list or something in that direction!

I think they might do an 'expanded lore' bit of a child Abby interacting with the other firefly leaders and then walking through the aftermath of the Hospital, and recognizing each of the victims, etc. to link us to that trauma, like the first episode did with Joel&Sarah. I also hope they show Abby aging/training in a montage with that hospital aftermath to show us that as Joel was haunted by Sarah's death at every moment, Abby is haunted by Joel to again empathize with her and pave the way for the Joel-in-One.

After watching the whole show, I had this feeling, at every second, that "I saw this before." Even with the scenes added for the show. Every minute held a familiarity.

The iconic bedroom confrontation seems to be difficult for gamers to follow emotionally if they're too used to the characterization of Joel in the game, but it works perfectly fine for non-gamers who are used to HBO Joel's PTSD and Ellie's feelings of isolation. Joel here enters the scene after just having an emotional breakdown in front of Tommy, so he enters the bedroom with his walls down and ready to be honest to Ellie that he's leaving; he's not angry and he doesn't have his walls up still like game Joel does. They actually added and changed some of the dialogue to fit the different tone of the situation here, like Ellie saying "I stood up for you today bc I thought..." and Joel full-on saying "Of course I do" when Ellie asks if he gives a shit about her, which is not at all something game Joel would be characterized to say at that moment. Over the course of the show, Joel hasn't been pushing away Ellie as game Joel has bc HBO Joel is more naturally paternal and opened up to Ellie much faster. So the reason Joel is less emotional than in the game is bc, rather than getting angry, he's just icing her out by acting colder. Ellie mentioning Sarah makes him build up his walls again bc it's making him feel guilty abt how he failed Sarah, which is exactly the emotional conversation he had with Tommy. So this is the first time in the show that Joel is purposely trying to push her away, the exact opposite of game Joel.

I had a little sister I lost earlier this year who I've essentially acted as a dad for I know I've been essentially both versions of Henry and as of late I've noticed I've been degrading into something that results show Joel, and I legit cannot watch both versions of both Sam and Sarah's deaths without not just hurting but all the thoughts and pain I felt the moment i got the news of my little sister's death rising up, the panic, the pain, the attempting to figure out what I could do to fix it, the gut wrenching rage. Admittedly I've got autism which I fully know makes how I process my own emotions and how I express my emotions, so I find cold show Joel handled the "I'm not her" conversation as more accurate to myself, people i know don't understand how the way my anger works so they often assume I'm mad when I'm just mildly annoyed because I hold back my anger. I wouldn't be surprised if show Joel had essentially trained himself to be cold in order to minimize his chances of forming connections and so that dark fucked up scenes for example the hoard of dead in episode 1 doesn't get him killed

I never new that David was also the man Nathan drake, the amount of character depth in the game would have never made me guess that David has the same actor as Nathan drake, it just goes to show how deep these characters are within their respective games

One thing that I liked about the show, and I feel like it's one of those things entirely based on personal preferences, is how vulnerable Joel is towards the end, the panic attacks, opening up to Tommy about the dreams, opening up about his suicide attempt to Ellie, the Joel from the game is much more badass and less transparent with his feelings, he's the type of character that bottles everything up This different approach towards Joel made me appreciate his character even more, he's more relatable for me this way, but I understand who would feel like the more badass version from the game is better, his cold demeanor has some interesting scenarios You even pointed out that in the video, the arguing during the "diary" scene was less impactful in the series because, as you said, we've seen Joel break seconds ago, so we know he's suppressing his emotions there, he doesn't want to show how bad he doesn't want to be separated from his new daughter, he's trying to lie to himself and I love that honestly. The Joel from the game, we're not so sure, we can suspect what his true feelings are, but we can't be certain, because he never lets his mask down, and he almost never shows his feelings, so when in that scene he does... Those little hints from his emotions come out, it much more impactful It's like that dad that doesn't say "I love you" every day, but that makes the day when he does memorable, it's strange, like I said I can see both approaches having their pros and cons, and I'm just glad we now have both to enjoy

The 9 episode length confused me initially, but then I remembered weeks prior listening to the last of us podcast for the first episode that they combined the original first 2 episodes. The show runners said HBO execs felt it was too bleak to end on Joel throwing the kid into the burn pit, and that viewership might drop before Elie is even introduced, so they just combined them into one really long episode.
