From the start of the Showtime Lakers/Larry Bird Celtics dynasty to the end of the Michael Jordan Era.
I included the John Paxson shot in '93, the Steve Kerr shot in '97 and Michael Jordan's final shot in '98.

These 19 season were the glory days of the NBA. The beginning of Magic and Bird until the end of Jordan in Chicago. I can't imagine that there will ever be a better era of NBA basketball. It was defined by classic match ups, great teams, bitter rivalries, and legendary classy players - it'll never get better than this.

+David Behman Magic and Bird? The change actually began when Dr J came into the league. He had to battle both Magic and Bird from 79-83. Bird in conference playoffs, Magic in finals 3 times.

Will Thompson I guess so but when Bird and Magic came the fan ratings increased alot keep in mind the mid 70's were the dark times of the league with cocaine addictions and fights especially with the Rudy Tomjanovich and Kermit Washington accident and when they came it absolutely dropped.

***** Sad that the NBA in general is weak now a days too. 73-9 Warriors...gimme a break they would get killed against the teams from 80s/90s.
@sean14sc
@sean14sc 8 жыл бұрын
Not with current NBA rules. With a 3 point line and more fouls being called these teams are better. Throw them in that decade and you might have a case. I still think they would be a perennial finals candidate in either. Especially when you consider how weak the west was in the 80's. 80's west was worse than the current east. Lakers would be the only team they would even have to worry about. 90's west is legit though.
@jayzee7538
@jayzee7538 8 жыл бұрын
sean14sc I actually agree on 80s West being weak. Honestly even early 80s East was weak. I say best days of the NBA was 1987-2000. After that Lakers-Pacers 2000 NBA FINALS it was last great FINALS of NBA golden era, after that it was current era which is not as good IMO.
@sean14sc

I don't think that teams are better nowadays but I think we can all agree that the average NBA player is a lot better than average NBA player in the previous decade.

@@jab1289 True, I kind of meant mid to late 2000's tbh. Like the Celtics, Cavs, Spurs, Lakers, Pistons Magic etc.. The 90's weren't horrible, I've only really seen highlights because I was too young to witness it so maybe I don't have a dog in this fight. But I'm content growing up watching the mid to late 2000's NBA. I would have liked to have seen the 80's Celtics vs Pistons/Lakers rivalry.. But even then, who else was competitive? I personally think the mid 2000's had the best competition.

The Lakers were the only team in the West to win it in the 80's and won 5 while losing 3 NBA Finals. Getting to the NBA Finals 8 out of 10 years is pretty impressive. The Celtics are historically the best, but the Lakers had a pretty dominant run and have won another 5 since the 80's team retired.

Well, let's see. In game 6 of the '97 Finals, Shandon Anderson was making a lay up, but then Pippen jumped up, grabbed the rim, and forced the shot to miss. That was goaltending. But the refs didn't call it. Then, when Jordan passed the ball to Kerr, he tripped Stockton, so he wouldn't be able to contest Kerr's shot. In game 6 of the '98 Finals, Howard Eisley made a 3 point shot, and the ball was clearly out of his hands before the clock hit one, yet the refs wrongfully took the 3 pointer away, calling it a 24 second violation. Similarly, they wrongfully gave a shot to Harper. Then, in the final seconds of the game, after Jordan stripped the ball from Malone, as he was making the game winning shot, he pushed Bryon Russell, but the refs didn't call it. Anyone who tries to make up an excuse for the series that was clearly rigged is probably a Jordanite, or they probably just hate Utah, like almost everyone does, or both.

The one had a 4-point lead with 0.7 seconds left. They should have cleated the court. A foul on a successful 3-pointer would have a chance to tie the game. Crazy stuff.

He did come back against Orlando in the 95 Eastern Conference Semi's but they couldn't get past them. They could of had 7 at least. He wore #45 as you probably remember.

If he had prepared and played the whole season of 1994-95 I believe they would have beat Orlando that year. Michael only played 17 games before the playoffs started after missing nearly 2 years.

It's because all the best players in the world play in the NBA, not just those from the USA, thus the best 32 teams in the world reside in the NBA so the winner is rightly crowned world champion. I'm not even from the US but its pure logic.

Willie Jessop your also forgetting Basketball is an American invention by a Canadian school teacher, how tf would the rest of the world be on par with the US when it’s still fairly a new sport. I think NBa only started to go global starting late 80’s then exploded after the dream team.

I mean it does take a team to win a championship. Kerr and Paxon were roles players who did their part. Offensively let's not act like Jordan wasn't the one averaging over 35 ppg every finals he played in
