As an American, I've followed footy now for 25 years. And never in my time watching the NFL has there ever been an incident or event like Walsh's passing, especially in the manner that it happened. With the 18 hours time difference between me in Las Vegas and Adelaide, I woke up to this happening in real time and seeing this, it was shocking. Absolutely shocking. And that's saying something, because the player from Port Adelaide died about 4km from me on their end-of-season trip.. Again, footy is more than a sport, especially with things like this because with the exception of, say, Kobe Bryant, it's been a long time, at least in my lifetime, when we've seen an outpouring like this.

athlonen now isn’t the time but what team do you follow mate
@athlonen
@athlonen 4 жыл бұрын
@@muaythaiisfun4404 To be honest, I kinda barrack for them all. I used to say "I'm for every side, except Fitzroy and Richmond!" but seeing that the Tigers were one of the first footy sides to break into the US, especially with junior footy and contributed to AFANA and the USAFL, and given the limited coverage we had at the time (a 1-hour highlights show on a 2-week time delay plus only the GF live), I was happy just to catch it. Now, it's hard NOT to like Richmond or Sydney or Collingwood (followed them since the Sav/Anthony Rocca/Gavin Brown/Simon Prestigiacomo days) or Footscray (my first trip to the MCG was coincidentally EJ Whitten's last public appearance).. Now that we get live matches, if footy's on, I don't care the side, I'm tuning in!

@@athlonen John McCarthy (The guy who died on Vegas trip) that hit hard, I'm a Collingwood supporter and he was a former Pies player at the time who I didn't mind, even though he was at the Power I still liked him.

@@SilentHotdog28 Yeah.. that one hit me hard as well.. I was living in Vegas when that happened. I was thinking that I could have bumped into him or Campbell Brown (GC/Hawthorn, likes to vacay in Vegas) at a buffet without even knowing..

3 things: 1. This is a perfect example that the AFL, is more than just a football league. 2. I totally agree with the "You see it on TV, but never experience it yourself" quote. 3. Whether you're a Port Adelaide fan to a Richmond or Geelong fan, I think we all felt the pain, not just Adelaide.

I was so proud of footy. Every team stood still and grieved. It showed that in our AFL the game is not bigger than any one person. We may diaagree at times or dislike what other teams may stand for but we haven't lost our way and we look after each other no matter who we support.

At the time of Phil''s death, I wasn't watching footy, I lost interest for a few years, so I had only heard of the name before, I didn't know who Phil Walsh was, but it still made me upset to hear that a coach of a club who the players relied on for guidance, game plans, tactics and a senior figure......Had been killed by his own son nonetheless......that hit hard, my dad and I became closer after that. Not that we weren't but tried to spend more time together. Now he's moved away and retired, I can't see him and my mum any time now. I miss them. Thanks for this show, I love how current and past players are expressing their emotions and talking about them, it's a good message for people of all ages, that it's ok to talk about your feelings. R.I.P Phil Walsh.

I remember bawling watching all our AFL boys arm in arm as one in support of their Adelaide football brothers, bottom line is the cross the white line to smash each other but it’s like someone who tries to hurt a sibling or best friend in life, you stand by them and fight for them no matter what, the AFL is unique like that
