You played great Paul! You were more consistent with your shots, and carried your partner - especially for the third shots. Your partner seemed tense and was playing tight - very reactive than proactive. Love your positivity and attitude Paul, look forward to watching you develop your game. #bringbackkenny

Not to be disparaging, but your partner's comments after game 1 of "nobody dinks anymore" and how you guys would win if you could get into a dink rally were a little weird considering how he sped up every single ball possible game 2. Good and bad speedups alike. If he wants more dinking in his game, he should probably start doing some of that himself to try and bring it about.

Noticed an improvement in your game Paul, especially in the soft game. 2HBH looks solid as well
@DavidSchilter23 сағат бұрын
Fun watch and good vibes! You're improving so much, Paul :-) I'm no expert, but I think when your partner is hitting a third-shot drop, you really gotta stay behind the baseline and look at them (instead of running into the transition zone without even observing, as you do at 52:50 ). In that split second, assess the trajectory and whether it'll be a good drop. If so, only then should you sprint in, otherwise stay back and try on the fifth shot. Slower folks (who feel they need to get a head start getting to the kitchen) or those with less partner awareness will run in no matter what but this is suicide because they will eat a ball in the face if it's a high third. You are fast, so stay back and sprint in ONLY when you see it's a good drop. This is particularly important when your partner isn't consistent at hitting good drops, as he was here (or like I am - lolz :/). The Johns brothers (or most other pro teams) do this well.

What would take your partners game to the next game is more top spin on his dinks. I got anxious since he popped it up so much. And also a backhand roll volley or flick instead of the push volley he does.

I would say some really good play, especially as you went further through the competition. I would say that you need to tell your partner to stop going for Ernes all the time, he hasn't got the court awareness yet to read where the ball is going to be coming from the opponent and it is costing way more points than it's winning. In a similar vein he looks to me like he really needs to practice a punch volley. He is hitting a lot of volleys with a brushing across the ball stroke and missing out on a lot of power compared to if he just hit through the ball. He's also doing a very weird crouch, going super low waiting for the ball when volleying. It looks like this would give him less reach and less ability to swing, which is another reason he has less power on the volleys, so not sure why he is doing that. Unfortunate you gave them a free point by not knowing the rule for the bar bounce shot, though since one of your calls you replayed did look in it maybe evened up in the end! Worth reading that rule, it is only a let if the net bar is on your side of the net I believe. I have had an opponent's shot hit the net tape drop over and clearly bounce off the bar, but the bar was on the opponent's side so I played on, they stopped thinking it was a let and lost the point.

Just a heads up at 31:28 when your teammate missed the Earnie if you miss an attempt per the rules if your outside of the volley zone it would be the other teams point. He has to make contact with the ball if he goes for it with an attempted swing.

@@eellaups You're correct. It's not a fault if you don't make contact when going for an Ernie as long as you don't cross the net. It looks like your partner's heel touched the foot of the net on that same Ernie attempt, which is a fault regardless of whether or not he touches the ball.
@evannatteford17842 күн бұрын
I commented something about this a while ago but man Paul my guy, you need to be playing on the left more and utilizing your two handed back hand roll dink, get low and hit those sharp cross court angles in dinking rallies, I promise you will be shocked at how many free points you get from doing this because every single time I see you go to that shot you hit a great ball but then you default back to a slice cross court or moving around to hit a forehand but if you just get low and hit a twoey roll you are gonna start obliterating these 4.0 guys, it also has the added benefit of setting your partner up for easy ernies when they try to reset down the line which your partner clearly loves to do.

the unfortunate side of temporary nets
@americanodude2 күн бұрын
Eh, it is tournament play, its to be expected. They were fully within the rules to call for a replay. The ball definitely hit the horizontal bar after the bounce. In rec play, id bet they would generally say "good shot" and move past it. In a tournament match, though, the ball hit the net on a pretty BS shot anyway. Paul didnt really deserve the point on a lucky net roll, so them asking for the replay feels pretty fair.

@@eellaups Actually, in accordance to the 2024 rules, the player was right. Here is the rule verbatim: 11.L.5.b. Except on the serve, a replay will occur if the ball goes over the net and: - hits the center base - hits any part of the horizontal bar - the ball gets caught between the net and the horizontal bar - hits a deflecting net - hits a draping net on the ground Except on the serve, if the ball goes over the net, bounces on the court, and then performs any of the above listed actions, a replay shall occur. The last bit is the important part, since for your video that is exactly what occurred. The ball passed onto your opponents side after a non-serve was hit, it bounced on the court, and then it bounced back onto the bar. So him asking for a replay was well within his rights and is in accordance with the rules fully.
