I had the great experience of spending most of the 70's in Ireland. The music was unbelievable.

The Greatest Irish band ever. Turned more young Irish-Americans to the sound than anyone.

I've found myself coming back into this and I can sit & start watching it again. Mighty stuff! The old clips are magic! And I was in Vicar St for THE reunion.

Heerlijk.... Groete + een goeie aevend

A Planxty fan for over 30 years, and I've never seen this. Wonderful!

Speaking as a piper, some of the genius of Planxty was the the accompaniment section (most of the band) deferring to the uilleann pipe drones when the drones first came in by confining their string and bodhran tonality to the upper harmonics so that the pipe bass drone could make its sale.

In addition to their excellent playing, they didn't play at rocket speed. It was a nice even, timing with expression and fast enough to make a person want to dance.

Does anyone know if that's Tommy Byrne from the Wolfe Tones at 4.57? I think that song at 6.10 could be Yarmouth Town. I'm not entirely sure.....
@silvi0197716 жыл бұрын
My guess is that it's because of the spat they had with Phil Coulter regarding the stewardship of the music. They all seem to get along internally (the reunion @ Vicar Street backs this up) but I can imagine it's both heartbreaking and rage inducing to not actually own the thing that you played that started so much.
