My first reaction when I heard about Dilip Kumar's "Marathi Daal Bhaat" comment was negative. On a second thought, though, he did Lata didi a HUGE favor. As a result of that comment, Lata didi learned Urdu and went on to become the singer we now know. Maharashtra produces many great singers but not many of them make it into Bollywood because of their accent. That said, one should never underestimate the power of Marathi Daal Bhaat which ruled India for a few centuries and freed India from the oppression of foreigners.

I, Chandan Mazumder, being a 65 year old musician (a Tabla - player), knew many things that is said in this video AND many things which I didn't know. This is indeed an excellent video. I and my music, both have been indeed fortunate enough to have grown hearing Lata ji and all her contemporary playbavk singers of her time. I have a book on Lataji, written by Munni Kabir Nasreen, "LATA MANGESHKAR IN HER OWN VOICE". 1) In that she has stated that, she used to go to school. And that Lata ji lost her father at a very tender age, as said at the age of 13, she used to take her younger sister to school. She used to attend her classes with that sister of her on her lap. because there was none to take care of her in Lata ji's absense. But she had to quit that because that was being difficult for Lata ji. That sister was perhaps Asha ji, Munni Kabir Nasreen wrote that book all, entirely on the basis of informations gathered telephonically, both Munni Kabir and Lata ji, living far apart in two different countries. The interview was not not taken primafacily. This is also stated in the said book. 2) Besides the two very common facts that she was called the "Nitigale of India" and "Kokil - Kantthi", I also heard, during my very teen age that, once the American Govt. during that time, had wanted Lata ji's of course body after her demise, for carrying out a scientific research on her Voice and Vocal - chords to find out how could a human voice be so, so very much perfect, exact on "Sur", so 'Surilaa' (in musical term) and be so Melodious. This information is also a fact. But there was no furter information in this regard after that.

@@parasvarshney2729 Asha had a fabulous range but Kishore Kumar? Seriously? Bro Mohammad Rafi is the only male singer who can reach upto taarsaptak. He had the greatest range among all his contemporary male singers. He could touch some very high notes and then suddenly touch very low notes.
