Pues porque hace cientos de años los que poseían esclavos gitanos, los más adinerados, les mandaban a conservatorios , a Viena o a las mejores escuelas para cuando volvieran fueran los mejores, además de tener un "buen toca discos" presumía también de ellos, por ahí donde tocasen.

Yes they truly are however I always hate when they show the minority the poorer people see this is a village of gypsy people and Romanian like non gypsy and those non gypsy people are also very poor support village I hate when they don't show the diversity of all the Roman people in the world like doctors lawyers dentists Electricians mechanics there all over the world in different colours and live very normal life, so at least I'd like to see a documentary that shows the diversity of the Roma people all over the world not just the poor That pisses me off

I visited Romania 15 years ago and played at a music school at a fund raiser. I stayed for 6 weeks and met and played with many very fine musicians! The young students of music were so good! School for music is 7 days a week for most of the year. Very hard work and it shows in their talents. I also saw the way Romanians' treat the gypsies, very much as was the case here for many years after the end of slavery in the USA. This music is as good as it gets! Wonerful, thank you all!

And how do the Romanians treat them? You cannot understand because the problem is social integration, education and major cultural differences. A migratory society reached the territories of another sedentary society, at the end of the 14th century. We have never denied their drama, they are refugees of the Middle Ages, when the Abbasid Caliphate and the Mongols had decimated the population of North West India. You can say that they were turned into serfs. Medieval Europe was characterized by serfdom. Many French, Germans, Romanians were serfs. They lived together with the Romanian communities for almost 700 years. We never thought of deporting them to India as some Western European countries did by deporting them back to Romania after 1989, when they could move freely like the rest of the Romanians. Yes, they have their culture and customs. They do not excel at cultural and social integration in other cultures. They prefer to keep their traditions and customs. We didn't manage to integrate them in 700 years, maybe the rest of Europe will be luckier. We consider them Romanian citizens of Roma ethnicity, but they are human beings, so they have all human rights, including that of free movement.

That's the same guy, who directed "Gadjo Dilo", also a movie you might be interested in. There is another roadmovie about Taraf by Jasmine Dellal "When the Road Bends: Tales of a Gypsy Caravan (2006)".

MARTIEN BÉLANGER They were very poor and were trying to take advantage of every situation to make a few bucks. Their manager was talking about their first tourneys in the movie "story of the last lautari" where they sold empty casettes in France. They thought they will never be back and that will be a chance to make some extra bucks. They had much more succes overseas than in Romania, where they are not as appreciated as they should. Few of them have died and all if them are getting old.

Haiduc means outlaw. So it's "Band of outlaws". Romanian outlaws are typically seen as national heroes, as many romanian outlaws fought against harsh rulers, and on some occasions, they fought against the ottomans. They are always known to steal from the rich and give to the poor, as a sort of Robin Hood.

It's a real beautiful treasure of YT. Music seem to be deep implanted in the soul of the gypsy culture. There is Gypsy without music and no music without Gypsy. They have influenced many kind of european music, from classic until jazz, as jazz manouch like Django Rheinard. Tzigane as in Rumania, Gitan in France , gitano in Spain, music, danse , strongs comunauty tied, spiritual fervor, its a People without land, moving from place to place. I have listened on a French radio (France Culture) a Gypsy who are lawyer, but are in every step he have to face with hostility and racism, in school, then in university, then in his job...because no-one imagine that a gypsy are able to study and have a good job. Gypsy stay Gypsy, even in the book of Victor Hugo, the hunchback of Notre-Dame. They are robber, they have contact with the Devil , they rob children to begging and rob innocent people. As physician I have to care some of them. Gypsy have to face with a lot of hard problems, but the first is how "we", the Gadjo, have destroyed their culture of traveller. Now, EU recognised them as People, with a specific langage, culture, tradition, religion,as nomad. They have their own flag, their own government. Their are french citizens or Spaniards Rumänien citizens, and so on and have similar rights and duties as every citizen but they are tzigane. Tzigan, or gypsy, or gitan or gitano..are fascinating...and since their all history they have to face with préjugés and racism until now, even if they show the best of them like music virtuosity.
