Nice work; clear and accurate. Just what I needed to swap out the HD on my old Mini. One addition, though; for my late 2014 Mac Mini, the six screws under the base plate needed a Torx 6H (that is, a T6 with a hole in the tip, as there’s a pin in the centre of the screw head.)

Thanks so much for this video. I brought my computer to an Apple store because it had trouble powering up. They replaced the logic board and the HD. Unfortunately, they said because of Apple's rules, they could only put in an optical drive like the original to replace the SSD that I had someone else install as an upgrade. The computer was agonizingly slow and The Apple store would be of no further help. I was not optimistic about doing this myself but with your video, I decided to attempt it. Everything worked out well and the computer works great. Thanks again. According to black magic benchmark, it is 90 times faster now.

(2014 Mac Mini) Thanks for video, very helpful. Original HDD failed. Removed the original HDD and the companion SDD, installed a 1 TB SDD. Boots up to recovery menu fine, I can erase/format the new SDD and go through the OS reinstall routine however it fails to complete. Seems to load over the 6 minute countdown and then an error message at the end, says to try again. Any suggestions?
@ItsBinhRepaired Жыл бұрын
You might need to install the os with another mac to an external hard drive and boot from it by holding alt/option on boot.

Pretty sure the screws (on my case at least) are safety Torx. Haven't gotten past that point yet.

Yeah, you need a set that has a hole in the middle of the bit. You could also use a small flat head. Sometimes you can even break the safety pin off like that if it won't unscrew.

It's NOT the taking apart that's difficult, it's the "putting back together" that requires a delicate touch with skill and precision of surgeon's eye and hand and thus, now my Mac mini is toast - NG. Those connectors are extremely difficult (nearly impossible) to get back on. Test out yourself with your wifi connector -the first you take off -try to put back on the socket. If you can't, consider yourself lucky that you've only lost wifi and put your mini back together.
