Looking into Northern Ireland from the Republic, I listened in awe when David Ervine spoke. He was a Unionist and made no apology for it, not should he have. But, he realized that he was fed a 'pig in a poke' when he was a young man. He saw that the powers that be kept the working man down, whatever persuasion that working man came from. When he passed, Northern Ireland lost it's best ever politician. In my opinion, for what it matters, he was a giant and I'm sorry that I never got to meet him.

Astute is the perfect description, he was the most astute Unionist politician of the modern era. I had the privilege of meeting him outside China's shop on the Newtonards Road when I was over one time probably 20 years ago now, such a commanding gentleman yet so humble. Gone but never should he be forgotten, how the Loyalist people need another David Ervine.

@@TheCrescentBar0961 don't think David agree with your intolerance..I'm a nationalist and think he was a brilliant man, a great representative for the unionist community...he definitely wasn't a bigot like yourself....
