YOU Leah are a delight to amateur radio! You explained it so well. I never let the band conditions, numbers, charts and stuff bother me. Can't control it so just roll with it. I think there are a lot of operators that use that as an excuse (oh the conditions must be changing)... yeah maybe you need a better antenna. LOL Your attitude is infectionous! Keep up the great work. 73

Nice work. Hopefully I will make a contract with you sometime out here in Utah. I would love to have a G90. I am putting together a DX-Commander Classic. Just need to tune it and get it on the air. I plan to do some POTA
@bruceweight73193 жыл бұрын
Hey it is all put together. The weather has been so hot I haven't gone out yet. I have been putting together my radio gear: FT-891 I did decide to add a tuner to my stuff as the 891 doesn't Have one. The SWR on 40 is a little high if I go much above 7.200 I need to play around with it. If I shorten 40 much more then 15 goes off the charts. I hope to get out in the next couple of weeks. I'm still working on a Raspberry pi to run digital but it is going to have to wait on money. Anyway I will eventually post an activation attempt. We have some unusual parks here, like the Japanese internment camp, which had no activations yet but just saw it has two now so I will still go and try and àctivate it. Thanks for the inspiration; after watching you and your sister I figured, hey this old lame just might be able to pull it off? Thanks again for the inspiration. I am going to try and do a short video of my first attempt. 73 DE KB7CQ

Hey I did go out and the DC Commander spoiled me! I got 60 or 70 contacts on the first try. I have been doing some hunting and that is fun but my mostly hirizontal end fed seems to be lacking for distant contacts, but hey I still help a little. Hopefully soon when I catch up with the house stuff I want to go out again. Oh and I was the first one on that site.

You commented on the radio getting warm. The cooler they sell props up the radio to put an air space on the bottom. It's probably a good idea to let it breathe from the bottom, maybe even put a fan below it. Gonna rig a 120 computer fan below mine on a 3d printed stand.

Nice job Leah. One comment I would make is that first contact wasn't a 5/5. If you can barely understand the transmission, and it is more like a 2 or 3. I would say that was more of a 3/5 or maybe 3/4. Looks like you are having fun with it...

If you want a stealth antenna so if you have a very tall tree then what about taking a leaf out of W5JGV 's book and use the tree as an antenna and by changing the tapping you should be able to tune other bands.
