Years ago when my children were 3, 2 and newborn, my husband got up in the middle of the night with the wide-awake 2 year old. He determined that she wasn't anywhere near ready to go back to sleep so he took her to the 24 hour grocery store and did the grocery shopping. He said he got a lot of strange looks. My 2 year old had a great time and was ready for bed by the time they got home. Win-win. They grocery shopped together all through her childhood. They still shop together - about once a month I watch my grandchildren while she and my husband make Costco runs. They really enjoy their time together.

I will have an operation on Monday and you inspired me to fill my freezer so I won't have to worry about cooking when I'm back from the hospital. So i did some meal prep over the last two days and now have some Bolognese sauce, chili con carne, pumpkin soup, chicken pot pie filling (hühnerfrikassee) and waffles in the freezer. I think we'll be good. Thanks for the inspiration.

Becky, I’m really glad that you’re doing this meal prep and trying to make everything homemade. This is important to me and my husband because we’re trying to eliminate foods with all the subpar additives for our health. So although I know it’s not totally about no sugar, no salt… This will help help me learn new recipes that I can adapt to our attempt to get away from all the junk that’s added to some items… We are even eliminating our pantry items as we go learning better options… So this will help me tremendously thank you

Hey, Becky. Lil hint for you when you forget your bags so you don’t have to purchase their paper bags. I, on purpose, don’t bring in my bags. I have the cashier or bagger just put the items back into my cart. Then when I get back to my car I bag my purchases my own self and I bag it according to where it goes when I get home. As in items that will be stored downstairs in the basement fridge or dry storage will be together and things that will go to the kitchen will be together. Plus I pack it so that it will be easier for me to carry as I walk with a limp and need a cane. Hope this helps you or any of your viewers. ❤

I'm wondering where you are. I'm in the Coachella Valley, and it's been super we indy here as well. I had to use my inhaler. Just to the west of us is Banning. They had their power cut early today and will be off until Friday. Those arching power lines can spark up a fire in seconds. My heart goes out to my Califonia neighbors. It's going to take years for the earths wounds to heal, and for people to recover, most don't have that advantage. 160,000 people on top of yesterday's 35,000 people are under evacuation orders. My valley is about 80 miles from the fires and our hotels are offering sanctuary to the victims! Please Hollywood, let's have telethon and concerts to aid our healing.

If people want to help, send something to the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army. If you want to pray, pray for some gentle rain. These areas are urban. Tightly packed in to one another, homes, businesses, etc. As of yesterday 25,000 homes have burned! I didn't hear a count in LA today? I heard 1000 homes, but I think that is in Pasdena/Altadeana?

I just meal prepped 20 lb of meatballs (50/50 beef & pork) to make room in my freezer for the next cow. My suggestion would be to use a standard / neutral meatball recipe, like a standard Italian meatball, bake them, vacuum seal them, and freeze them. Then you can throw them into any sauce you like. The recipes I will make include grape jelly & chili sauce, Italian wedding soup, teriyaki, and meatball subs. Yum!

I just did a huge grocery stock up at Costco for meal prep too! Also, I'm not sure if anyone else has shared anything like this with you, but I would caution you about the sofa sleeper idea. We have friends who have one for guests and honestly we prefer to sleep in their camper over the sofa sleeper. The mattress for the sleeper is unbearably soft and the bed doesn't actually lay flat so people have to sleep with their heads a bit elevated. Over the years I have found this to be the same across other sofa sleepers I have slept on as well. Just wanted to give you that heads up before you decided on a sofa. Love your videos and I find them incredibly inspiring!!🥰

@Sparkplug4712

Absolutely agree with you. I find sofa sleepers extremely uncomfortable for my back because you don't lay flat like on a mattress, it's bumby with uneven sections. We have sleeper sofas and no one sleeps on it, everyone perfers our air mattresses that plug in the wall and fills up in a minute. My queen size air mattress is triple height, not low to the ground, is actually higher than some beds, and has a pillow top. Easy to put away in its bag and hide in the closet

Just a note on the cans versus bottles issue: Aluminum cans are the highest value recyclable you can get and glass is about the lowest, so from a sustainability standpoint, switching from glass to cans is a big plus. And of course shipping things in heavy glass is obviously more carbon-intensive than the much lighter-weight aluminum cans.

Hellebores - pronounced hell - e - bore. The white ones that appear in December are known as Christmas Roses. There is also a variety that appears Feb onwards and has the pink and deep red called Easter Roses and the stamens in the middle looks like a crown of thorns. I’m glad I’m not the only one that likes plain carbonated COLD water at the end of the day! I also have a tendency to have one with my dinner as well. Thoroughly enjoyed your vlog tonight, made me laugh when you fell into the chair, because I did the same thing this past Saturday! I was trying out new sofas and I wasn’t paying attention to where the seat part of the sofa and I flopped into it. Never heard my husband laugh so hard in my life!

Becky please try an English Roast dinner, your family will love it. Roast Rib of beef, Yorkshire pudding, roast potato & parsnips, plus cabbage peas & cauliflower with chesse sauce. English gravely made with meat juices flour oxo cube or bistro gravey powder. Use veg water with gravely. Serve with Horseradish & beetroot

She means gravy and bisto powder. I make mine using the meat juices, add cooking water from the vegetables and then thicken using flour or cornflour (I think that’s cornstarch in the US) I would always serve with horseradish but I’m not sure what is meant by beetroot, I would never serve beetroot with a roast dinner

Try blanching your home grown green beans and then freeze them. I noticed that if I freeze green beans without blanching they are not very good. Same with broccoli. Experiment with a single bag in summer, freeze for about a week then try them. Its amazing how much difference blanching makes. That's what they do with the store bought ones.

I have not had the best luck the last couple years with growing onions from seed. A local friend of mine buys his onion starts from Dixondale farms. They have good breaks on larger orders so he is splitting with me. He’s ordered from them for 15 years and he gets the largest onions! We grow long day variety for our 7a zone. He recommends the blush, yellow Spanish and redwing. Can’t wait for more garden videos from you. Thanks for the great videos.

Hi Becky! I’m doing the three rivers challenge in a way that will work for us and accomplish what we need to accomplish which is to use down what we’ve stored so much of for winter. To me doing a challenge like this may vary a bit with each household. So the degrees could vary. We have an over stock in pantry and freezers so that’s my focus. It’s going well. I do restock produce and dairy to make this a successful challenge. I think each household could have different needs and desires to accomplish for a successful challenge. So I’ve incorporated what needs to be done here. So if you decide to get on board with us just make it a challenge that works for your household. It’s an inspiring and exciting event! I love love love watching you cook and shop and plan! I’m getting some great ideas. Thank you! I love your channel!

I have 2 homes & have bought lots of furniture from Costco & adore almost all of it. I say almost because I’ve purchased 2 couches (sectionals) & haven’t like either of them. I do have a recliner that looked similar to the one you looked at & it’s extremely comfortable. I also own 3 mattresses we bought from Costco from the brand Ghost Bed that we love. Those are the only soft surfaces we have from Costco, the rest are consoles, tables, etc. My point is, I’m a large fan of Costco’s furniture, but I don’t think I’ll ever buy another couch at Costco.
