Late Night Street Food Adventure in the Heart of Saigon

We ate some late night street food delights in District 1, Saigon, Vietnam. We ventured out at about 10:30pm on a Tuesday night to see what we could find in the Pham Ngu Lao ward of District 1 near Bui Vien Party Street. We wanted to get some Vietnamese pork sausage, but it was sold out, so we ended up getting some Cambodian beef skewers, Vietnamese sugarcane juice with passion fruit, and Singaporean flavored frog porridge.
There seemed to be plenty of late night street food options in this area, which makes sense because it is near the backpacker street of Bui Vien and in an area of Ho Chi Minh City that never really sleeps.
The beef skewers were barbecued and topped with butter, and served alongside baguettes that were also smothered in butter. We got 6 skewers and two banh mi (baguettes) for 100k vnd, or $4.08.
The sugarcane juice was very unique in that it was made with passion fruit, and even had passion fruit seeds. This delicious juice cost 20k vnd, or $0.82.
Last but definitely not least, the chao ech aka frog porridge included one frog sautéed in a Singaporean sauce, two bowls of white rice porridge, and cool fresh vegetables all for 70k vnd, or $2.86.
We ate and drank this deliciousness and gave you a signature Dank Rank Food Review.
We were both able to eat a decent late night meal and enjoy a delicious beverage for this amount in the heart of Saigon, Vietnam for less than $8! For any foodies traveling to HCMC, looking for some decent late night food at a cheap price, check out these street food vendors in District 1!

I had a very similar dish to the frog in Hue last year, whilst waiting in the rain for a bus. Here in Northern Thailand, we eat well, at least my wife's family does, a lot of frog. A lot of people would love frog if they could just loose their western food preconceptions. You need to get yourself some bullfrog. Those legs are like chickens!😊

I grew up eating them in the USA. My Grandfather would go frog gigging, and we would eat them fried. Very similar to rabbit. Good stuff, for sure!

Hahaha Good one BTB I didn’t have to use my AK. That made me laugh. Also, easy way to calculate C to Fahrenheit. Multiply by 2 and add 30. It is not always exact, but close enough.

This reminds me of an interview that was done years ago with Paul & Linda McCartney. Most people who interview Paul McCartney look at him like he is some type of deity. Linda in response to some question about what it waz like being married to Paul McCartney brought his status back to being a human like the rest of us by responding with something to the effect of " Well, he still picks his nose".
