Always wanted to hear the clean version of that fill. We all know what fill I’m talking about.

If you want to see him play something very close to this fill, he did it here with QOTSA. It's how i figured it out... kzbin.info/www/bejne/on_cXquor8yYeK8

kzbin.info/www/bejne/qoexdIJsidOZpM0 I believe this (^) version is the one from the 1994 Foo Fighters sessions. It was only just officially released, amongst other live/radio performances, rarities, B-Sides and demos.

Kev Craven I didn’t hit your link yet but I bet it’s Avon in 2002. That middle second is fuego. Man perfected the triplet fill.

I turned this fill (3:19) on at 0.5x speed without pitch maintaining and this is what I've heard: (WTF??) | | ((S)) K s S S K K K K T k K ((S)) K f T2 F K (F+t) K (F+t) K (F+t) K (F+t) K (F+t) K ((S)) Where: S/s - snare hit/touch; ((S)) - snare flam; K/k - loud/quiet kick; T/t - small tom hit/touch; T2 - bigger tom hit (probably second hanging tom); F/f - floor tom hit/touch; (F+t) - hit on both floor and small toms (small one is very quiet, so we will consider it as a light hit) with a very small time delay between each other (aka flam); you can also consider construction «(F+t) K» as Bonham triplet, but Dave plays pretty unevenly here, so measures merge in some places (especially closer to the end of the fill). What can I say? Well, the best name for that spontaneous masterpiece is probably «closet falling downstairs». Such a huge combination of toms and kick! If we ignore the fact that there are four 16th kicks in the middle of the fill (which says about either double pedal or double tracking) and no empty measures (which makes it even more impossible), we get a full understanding of how random timing mistake can transform into pure energy and extremely groovy sound. Love this one, hope one day I will be able to play it the proper way (well, maybe without double pedal, just replace kicks with toms). Dave Grohl is a beast!

yeah hes just spamming bonham triplets and flams around the kit but it sounds super cool, at the end of the fill to me it sound like just a repeating triplet kinda like bonham does at the end of the moby dick drum solo

I’d say he was either 21 or 22 when this was done as this was him pre Nirvana.

Such heavy vibes of "sick sick sick" by qotsa at the beginning there. Anybody else hear that?

Yes very true I hear that now
@blindrobertevans Жыл бұрын
Yes. Same cord. C major 3rd flat seven. Not sure if I’m notating that right. Only difference is with QOTSA, the major 3rd is inferred. I believe drop C tuning, strumming only the open E and A on the 15th fret.

Afaik Dave brought Kurt several songs, he was simply never interested in including them in Nirvana albums, that's why Dave ultimately made his own album
