@@Latebloomershow Don't put soy bean meal on your organic plants!!! I fertilize heavy with nitrogen in the fall and really don't need anything in the spring. I don't even till my garden anymore. I just dig the holes for each potato or use a hoe for my beans and carrots. Same with tomatoes, kale, onions and garlic. I also don't grow anything fancy. I just grow what I eat in a year. But please do not put soybean meal on your organic plants. My nephew was a huge soybean farmer. He wouldn't even let my sister...his mom go near the plants. We should never be eating anything soy.

I am trying Supermarket big cloves Probably California "Gilroy" I got for $0.69 per bulb at Safeway. Who knows? Probably will have garlic next Summer and maybe get bigger bulbs as this time I planted in the raised bed full of 1 year old compost I bought last year. Electro-culture is something new to me and I may do that next year but who knows? Glad you are getting more things done and early. Still have grasshoppers here today. Ugh.

Hi Kaye, Garlic likes loose soil. So if you don't have sandy loam soil I would have suggested that you till really good first. Garlic likes bone meal and blood meal and loose soil. It also looks like you planted too close together. Each plant will be fighting for nutrients. I always sit my arse down on the ground and scoot along and use my little hand shovel to work up each hole and then put my fertilizer right in the hole. Then place garlic on top. Has worked like a charm for me. Hope you have success. I can't wait to see it in the spring. Even if we have failures we still learn. Bless you Kaye.

What fertilizer do you use?
@5GreenAcres Жыл бұрын
@@juliabrown5948 I top my garden in the fall with composted chicken manure from clean out the year before. But any good farm fertilizer. Find a sheep farmer and you can put it on cold (doesn't need to compost) Or a horse or beef farmer. They will give it to you free.
@Latebloomershow Жыл бұрын
I know. I was STUNNED to say the least that the soil was compacted just two inches down, but I'd already committed to planting and filming. Those who make perfect garden videos (I used to when I had help and only made two short videos a month), I am so jealous of. Like @HuwRichards ~ I guess I'm just too old and the world's too precarious to make a success of this channel now. I really appreciate the love and support. I can add blood meal. I didn't use it that day, was in a rush.
@Latebloomershow Жыл бұрын
I have the manure now, but it's sitting in a big pile about 100 feet away, so that's going to be a chore to get it moved. I will be adding that. @@Latebloomershow Ohhh Kaye, please don't give up. You are not too old. You are one of the first channels that I click on when I get notifications. I can't stress this enough...you wouldn't need help if you just grew what you eat in a year. From what I have seen and what I watch (usually) are the channels like yours but then they follow up with what they do and how they process their abundance. My heart aches for the loss of Tiger. You have no idea of how I literally feel your pain. Two months ago I had to put the last of my three amigo's down. (chihuahua's) Rico age 15 and a half, Paco age 16 and Chulo age 17 and a half just two months ago. The pain is still there. It is still there for all three. There is no greater pain other than losing a family member which if I am correct you most recently lost a sister? You are experiencing extreme grief and it doesn't help with everyone reminding you and wishing you well. I know that too because I told everyone do not call me or send me cards. That I would call them when I was ready. As a long distance friend who wants only the best for you I wish you would do what I do and have less gardens but focus only on what you eat and store for a year and save seeds so it costs you less each year. My garden cost me $33.00 in total for the year!!! I am your age. I take my time and sit down when I plant. Lol. You would not need help that way. Just make it manageable on your own. People get turned off by the channels that suffer from the more syndrome. Always wanting bigger and better. Most viewers want to watch channels that they can relate to and do as you do. I have stopped watching many of them for that reason. Not everyone can have acres of gardens. People don't want to just see what you have, they want to see how you do it and why. You are a teacher an influencer and you have true talent. You have a beautiful property, a beautiful home, three lovely fur babies that love you and many far away friends. You are blessed. When I start getting down I tend to think of the people in the hospital burn center or cancer center fighting for their lives. They would change places with us at any time. You work so hard with your filming and editing and all you do. I just want you to know you ARE appreciated. I wish I lived close to you. We could have fun.

Can someone please tell me why I have to plant garlic in fall?I never planted it before and do you have to do the same with onions too?
@Latebloomershow Жыл бұрын
No, onions are planted in February, depending on your growing zone. If you are starting from seed, start seed in January. If growing from starts you can order then from Dixondale Farms and they have a guide to tell you when they will be shipped to your zone. Order now up to end of January for February (zone 7) planting out. Here is my onion planting video from last year: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHvWpphjaMZjmJI Hope that helps. This year I started from seed but didn't plant in a great spot and didn't have many. They've already been eaten. @lisabeam8315
