The subtext to this is that Lebanon has permitted rockets from its territory into Israel relentlessly since Oct 8. The loss of life, including life changing injuries to those who are part of Hezbollah is sad, but all Lebanon has to do is leave Israel alone and let and let live on either side of the Blue Line/International Border. Sadly they just won’t do that and continue to want to engage with Israel militarily.

"There's a sense this is an attack on Lebanon and not just Hezbollah..." Isn't that an inevitable consequence of a state that allows itself to be so deeply associated with a terrorist group? Okay you can argue one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter and it's all perspective, but ignoring who is "right" when no one is right in this historical mess, surely from the Israeli perspective if Lebanon will not or cannot sort itself out and allows its own population to do things like firing rockets at Israel, then Lebanon becomes open to attack? It seems to me like there is no mystery or surprise to this perspective or that there is some leap of logic here. So yes, there should be a sense of that because it makes sense. If the Tory party in the UK were some paramilitary firing rockets at France saying France cannot exist and must be eradicated and the UK tolerated it, even approved of it, and did not put a stop to it immediately, allowed that situation to come to be in the first place and continue, then I wouldn't suggest it was unreasonable of France to retaliate or that they must unrealistically ensure only the Tory party members are harmed when they did. I wouldn't be blaming France for our casualties, I'd be blaming both the Tories and our general population and governance that allowed us to be in the position that a radical fundamentalist religiously motivated openly violent hate group financed and backed by some outside power but based and supported here wielded so much power. I'd much prefer peace and logic to prevail, but what chance is there of that when religion and power is involved at the core?
