No. I had it drummed into me when an apprentice, never leave chuck key in the chuck. Always ensure the lathe is switch off if doing any adjustments or maintenance. Plus no loose clothing or rings worn.😮

I saw the video it was in russia It was a security camera footage of a man getting his arm stuck in a lathe that was on and he was trying to get it out while no body was around, and he ends up getting his whole body stuck in it and it spins super fast turning him into flying pieces of guts, goop, bones, intestines and other things.

Don't machine while wearing baggy shirts. Don't machine while intoxicated. Keep a copy of a conversion table, at your station. Try to keep calipers on your person. Have a rubber impact mat to stand on. Comfy boots. Bring your lunch. Eating your food, on your break is you time. Use this time to read, reflect, whatever.... just do it for yourself. Don't claim that you can do everything, because that will not be true. These are some basics.

Heard a story from someone there. A factory in China making lampshades, a metal disc is stamped by a few tons and becomes a lamp shade. The process involved a person inside the press placing the disc on the stamp and removing the lampshade. However, the press moved constantly, the person doesn't control it. So, one wrong move and ... The day my colleague was there to develop automation process to remove humans from the press. In this day, an accident happened and as he was approaching the machine they were hosing it down a nervous man stood by, waiting to enter the press and take over for the previous worker.

I saw video of a guy working late alone. A big machine for rolling (what I assume to be) big rolls of carpeting caught his hand and started spinning him around the side of the spool. This went on for a minute as a wet spatter formed as his legs slammed the ground. Then he came loose and just layed in a lump. The workers found him the next morning. Never said if he died. I would think so. He spun just like this. I was really alarmed.
