Impressive results on your first lathe restoration. Excellent to see you save that vintage lathe from the scrap metal industry. Nice job. Good luck on the next project and maybe a light green color would be good.

I so glad it was spared the scrap bin ! These ol gems need to be kept and cared for, they need to be used !! Looks like it’s got a lot of life left to give. 👍

I have the American version Clausing Colchester 13”. Mine is un restored at the moment. It is fully functional. I absolutely love these. Mine is the Mark 1.5 also gap bed. You did a fantastic job on this restoration. The color is great. It shows off the beautiful lines. The bare polished aluminum it a great touch. Well done!

I think you did a great job and even though personally, I tend to sick to original colours I think the blue looks excellent. It’s a lot of work to pull one down and paint it, so many nooks and crannies to clean. I recently purchased Colchester Triumph 2000 and painted it but I only removed the removable panels, knobs, levers ect and it was still a big job. That machine will be much nicer to use now it’s looking fresh and will certainly see you out. Cheers mate, Stuart 🇦🇺

My dream lathe. Looks like a Clausing Student.
@Kiwi-Builds28 күн бұрын
Think Clausing (USA) is the same brand as Colchester (in the UK), is a Master this one, so the same as a student other than a slightly longer bed. I should really paint master on it as well !. Thx for watching.
@stevecarlisle332327 күн бұрын
All made by Colchester, just different model names for different countries. The Student looks identical to the Master (Triumph) and Causing (US). They were self all over the world

It’s a beautiful lathe. One of the nicest looking beds I’ve ever seen. They usually put more work into making their equipment look friendlier than most other companies did. Did you try to check wear in the ways? I’m not sure if this is a hardened bed. If so, then usually that’s a moot question. I like the way the front of the gearbox comes off. It makes it so much easier to check and clean these gears. Nice job. If you’ve kept those casters, I assume you’re going to use the screw down feet when you level this to get rid of bed twist. I powder clear coat aluminum parts and sometime cast iron and steel parts that aren’t painted.

Am thinking of doing a video on accuracy. Before I restored it, I cut some items, and they worked out ok. It had a sticker that stated induction-hardened, but this was removed during the paint prep. Will be using the feet to level it, have to say the wheels have been ultra-handy, as I can push it around by myself .... just. I did not show it in the video, but put a clear coat over the aluminum, but need more practice on this, went on really fast with the spray gun, and had a couple of small runs.

Great rebuild and a well laid out video, these are tough old machines and stand the test of time, didn,t rebuild the headstock on mine as it was in good condtion with clean oil, has served me well since the rebuild... This is my video of the rebuild...kzbin.info/www/bejne/qoa8qqtpp7J-m5I
