I have disassembled two treadmills thus far to get the motors and controller boards as well. And all the hardware and any other part that I could use for other projects. And with the latest disassembled treadmill it had a feedback hall sensor attached and I kept it for just that same reason. Some times everything you may need for another project is already there for the taking also. Thumbs Up!

This was very helpful. I'm using the ELS system from Clough42 as well. I wanted a separate RPM bc the ELS box will live near the speed control levers on the lathe, while the rpm gage will sit in the power/e-stop box that is eye level. If I ever get caught up on projects that intertwine from Z to A!! Thanks again.

This is cool! Now I am motivated to go around my town and pick up all those free treadmills... Also, what you said about the camera shutter speed near the end is actually correct. Independently of what the frame rate is, each frame is still subject to the shutter speed 🙂

Glad you liked it, have fun scrapping treadmills, you can do lots with them.

Nice work Day! As I mentioned, I am looking forward to getting my meter used once I get variable speed going. I originally just used an old cell phone charging cord as my power supply. Now you have me wanting to integrate my sensor power with the motor power. Will have to have a side bar with you on that one! :)

Great video. Do you ever have dust and grit get pulled into the motor by the cooling fan and causing damage? Most motors on sanders are sealed motors.
@dazecars Жыл бұрын
My machines are working with metal chips so the the material is big enough that it is too heavy to get pulled into the the motor like dust would. My issue is steel and iron chips sticking to the outside of the motor case due to the magnet inside.

I know a guy that could probably help you with that.

Daze, your DPDT switch is on the DC side. Do I need a DC switch or can it be any DPDT switch? How about a three position rotary switch? On off On? What amperage rating do I need for that switch? Thanks. Paul

Love all your videos very informative and the way you present is really good. Just wondering with things like screw cutting when the lathe dc motor speed is slow, does it affect the motor? ie heating up? Thanks

That is the beauty of a treadmill motor. Treadmills are designed to run for long periods of time at a full range of speeds. I single point thread at 100 RPM. With the gearing my motor is turning about 350 RPMs It doesn't get hot at all. About the longest I have ever threaded in one session is about an hour but in that hour little to no heat buildup. If you are still worried about heat it becomes a non issue of you are using a motor with blue wires because when hooked up correctly the system will shutdown if heat starts to get near a dangerous point.

Why didn't you just buy an AC 110/220v tachometer from Amazon? That same company makes both.
@dazecars Жыл бұрын
I made that video over a year ago and at the time it was what I could find. Not saying an AC powered one wasn't available, I really don't know it may or may not have been and I might have just missed it. I am going to change it out to an AC unit. I ordered one from aliexpress a couple weeks ago.

Wouldn't reducing voltage reduce torque?
@dazecars2 жыл бұрын
On a DC motor torque is a function of amps, and speed is a function of volts. A DC motor torque curve is flat once the volts are high enough to overcome the resistance of the coil.
