Also, given the ship's aesthetics, I would like to suggest some lore for it (if we still do that) The Mortars look strikingly to me like old-school smokestacks. What if the Legion specifically designed a ship to fool casual on-lookers into thinking they are looking at a very lightly armed cargo vessel? Instead of a warship capable of launching CRAM shells the size of small cars.

I love the way the shells look streaming through the air, having one ship that's basically a mortar battery, or a fleet of these smaller ships and re-enacting the "we shall fight in the shade" scene from 300 would look absolutely incredible. Edit: I think you should definitely let them fire backwards, if you ever have a fighting retreat with these things you can imagine the hell it would cause the enemy.

I suggest using an altitude fuse on mortars instead of inertial. To another point, do remember that we have mimics in the game now, which are exceptionally versatile when it comes to aesthetic applications. Basic CRAM barrels make for excellent connection points for large round-based propellers, and CRAM bomb chutes are perfect for connecting APS barrels or poles to the basic CRAM barrels.

Today, for the first time ever, I, Cato Sicarius, ex-Captain of the second Ultramarine company, Master of the Watch, Knight Champion of Macragge, Grand Duke of Talassar, High Suzerain of Ultramar, Primaris Marine, commander of the Primarch Guilliman Victrix Guard, Guilliman student, possible next Chapter Master and possible heir to the title of Lord Regent (the last two are highly heretical speculations done by other people)., managed to watch a video of the famous fabricator-general of Nether, Lord Lathrix, immediately after its release! (And may even be first). Also before watching the video in my tests I've found mortars to be a pain in the ass to design because the shells would keep getting fired into space and never come back down for some reasons. Still that was some time ago so I, Cato Sicarius, might give them another chance. Speaking of hitting from the top that could also one of the way that could make cluser missiles useful, similarly to IRL anti-tank cluser missiles, as deck armour is often weaker on ships and tanks. It could also be used as a way to test the new HEAT head. Regarding the angle I, Cato Sicarius, don't think elevation barrels are even needed since as a mortar the cram won't ever need to exceed a 45° angle anyways, even when shooting flyers.

Leave it with the motor barrels. Should be a final failsafe type thing if the engines are down, and it can't broadside. It'll still be able to fire in all directions. Also, it reminds me of the Titanic.

I'm happy you are doing FtD again :D Second: Regarding the range of the mortar: Could you try switch-blocks to engage targets with different shell-velocities depending on their distance? Like: if target >1000m use 500m/s - if 750m use 300m/s etc. etc. Or you could use 4 different guns/barrels each with different shell-velocities. They'd fire in different arcs, which would also look nice, and also automatically hit the target time-delayed due to their different arcs. Would eliminate the necessity of staggered firing.

To maximize damage across the whole ship being targeted by multiple mortars, use separate aimpoint selection for each cannon. Then, you won't have shells aiming at the same block and going through holes. Alternatively, you could fire the mortars on a delay between each shot so the shots behind the first one have a bit of time to home in on other parts of the ship.

Also you can increase the minimum packing time for the cram cannons so that they don't fire the moment the barrels have cooled down enough to fire. More time between shots means more explodium packed in the shells (up to a point).

Now, Lathrix, there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with sending vehicle-size CRAM shells into low orbit. Call it... "Orbital Asset Management." If that doesn't fool them, the fact those shells could likely counter satellite platforms overhead (and enemy artillery halfway across the map) should do it.

I've gotten back into the game although I'm having quite a few difficulties trying to get the AI to be sensible, for some reason it's refusing to lift my hovercraft out of the water regardless of what settings I use (it has more than enough power to sort itself out it just doesn't)

@@elgurkus6885 it's all based on heliblade spinners and I was starting it outside of water, I've checked and all of the spinners are using the correct presets for what they're meant to do on the craft and it handles pitch and roll perfectly fine, it just won't lift itself up.

How about a smol tonk? And I mean, really smol, something that has a pretty light armament (for FTD), 105-152mm gun. Something that you could spam. I would very much like to see those little tanks with skirts, so that the wheels/tracks are more or less protected. I saw some other KZbinrs putting tiny engines in their vehicles, so maybe this is an option. I suggest the tank has 16 road wheels, or less.

That is a very good looking mortar craft! Nice one! If you want to keep playing with mortars, then I suggest using depth fuses. Means the shell can explode on the water's surface even if they miss.
