The sobaquera from El Ruso in Boyle Heights | What We're Into

Lucas chimes in this week for the cheesy, meaty sobaquera at El Ruso. Essentially another name for a burrito, the sobaquera is a massive handmade flour tortilla grilled on top of cheese on a hot comal and then filled with a choice of meat and sometimes beans.

I love that the burritos number one filling is meat! Where I live in Seattle all the Mexican food truck burritos are filled with rice as the prime ingredient!

Lunch trucks in BOYLE HEIGHTS are everywhere but only a few Original ones that started the lunch truck craze , all these other trucks just wanna post up and take advantage of the neighborhood and its culture.

Why is the place called "El Ruso"?

Probably because it's his nickname. In Mexico if you look a little whiter than average or have lighter coloured hair you get nicknames like el güero (the blond one) or el ruso, even el aleman (Sometimes it's also for immigration history…)

Sobaquera comes from "sobaco", which means "armpit" in Spanish.

1401 Mirasol St. -- Mirasol St. almost looks like a wide alleyway. Once you go down it past the CVS you won't be able to miss it!
