I can never understand why people cry 'we don't want that European socialism stuff' when offered the chance to have a fair system of healthcare. If your son was a Brit, his insulin would be free, as diabetics don't have to pay prescription charges (which are only about £10 a month per drug up to a max of 14x that per year for the all drugs you need to have even when we do have to pay for drugs) and he wouldn't need insurance. Other European countries there can also be modest payments, they just have slightly different systems. Overall, the country's taxation system pays far less per head for healthcare than you do for your healthcare, because insurance companies aren't creaming off millions for their admin and profits. But somehow US citizens have been house trained not to want our sort of system- you pay more, and get less. It seems bizarre to us.
