Cariñosa is a super old school and iconic Filipino folk song/dance. Many kids grow up learning the dance at school, so it's very emblematic of the culture for many Filipinos. It's quite fitting for Ez Mil to remix the melody of this song for his homage to his culture. He's mixing the traditional with the modern.

It is like savage patriotism! Bringing back our Pilipino nationalism & patriotism; united after years of divide among ourselves due to political disorder among corrupt politicians! The song actually remind us to be united no matter what political color we have. Honestly, I shed tears while he was singing "Panalo" "castigating" Pilipino's propensity of being into "crab mentality" (pulling down each other's back). @ricojrnocos1523 жыл бұрын
Correction. Filipino is only the Philippine's official Language. Tagalog, Ilocano , bikolano, cebuana etc are called dialect.
@tinolangmanowk82583 жыл бұрын
@@ricojrnocos152 wrong. :) Tagalog has "official language" status together with english accdg. to the constitution, but that doesn't mean that all other 181 languages of the philippines are just "dialects". "Official language status" means that it would be the language (among all other Ph languages) that would be promoted in usage in schools, businesses and media by the gov't., but that doesn't mean Bisaya/Cebuano, Ilocano, Kapampangan, Waray, Hiligaynon, Bikol etc. Are just dialects. There are many ways by which we can differentiate dialects from languages, but the most basic and accepted method is thru "mutual intelligibility". That is, when speaker A does not understand what speaker B is saying or have very little to no grasp of what the other is saying, it means that they are speaking different languages and not dialects of the same language. The same would apply here in the philippines, that is why when I, a Kapampangan, started speaking my language to a Bisaya, hindi po kami magkakaintindihan. Besides, these languages that I mentioned have different vocabularies, grammar, literatures and history. May mga pagkakapareho po sa mga IILANG words, but that is because PH languages belong to the AUSTRONESIAN family of languages, wherein naka include din po dito ang halos lahat ng languages sa Indonesia, Malaysia, and to some extent the Pacific islanders, so it would be normal if there are some terms na pareho or may hawig sa bawat isa. Now what are dialects? Dialects are variants of the same language in different areas, pero magkakaintindihan parin po sila since they still use the same language. An example of this is the Batangueño Tagalog and Bulacan Tagalog, wherein may pagkakaiba with the way they speak, but they would understand what each other are saying since they're both speaking in Tagalog. The same would apply to the Variants of Bisaya spoken in Cebu and Davao. Up until this day, the education system is still trying to correct the big misconception that Tagalog and english are the only languages in the Philippines, and that all other regional languages are just "dialects". This started in pre WW2 when Americans thought that Filipinos are only speaking dialects of the same language. This idea was wrongly caught on by the education system back then, who also did this to promote the "isang bansa, isang diwa" nationalism, which is problematic to its core. But then again, if you would ask linguists, UNESCO, and other experts in the field nowadays, all other Philippine languages are considered to be languages of their own already, because of the realization that they have always been. Sana po malinawan kayo. Good day :)
@ryanbuenviaje58093 жыл бұрын
@@tinolangmanowk8258 based on your lecture, would you say that tagalog and its variants are dialects of the the Filipino language which is officially recognized as the national language? just curious, coz i’m also confused 🤷♂️.
@tinolangmanowk82583 жыл бұрын
@@ryanbuenviaje5809 Hello, so yeah I will try to explain it to you in a way that is most consistent and true to the field of linguistics, since the Concept of "Filipino" is born of a political/legal context. Technically speaking, "Filipino" is the Manila variant/dialect of the Tagalog Language, which was elevated into a national language status by president Quezon. It was a more standardized version of the Tagalog language. But it is still Tagalog, together with the Batangueño, Laguna, Bulacan, Mindoro and other Tagalog dialects. Now it is important to note how "Filipino" came to be, and how it was supposed to look like based on the constitution and the KWF. Originally, the plan was to make a national language based in Tagalog, but is to NATURALLY EVOLVE away from the Tagalog language, and become a whole new language that is different from Tagalog. How are they gonna do this, you ask? They aim to do this by introducing/borrowing words from other PH languages and English hanggang sa dumating sa point na it (the Manila dialect of Tagalog) becomes a whole new language. But the question is, did Filipino/Manila Tagalog deviate from its Mother Language Tagalog? No. Words like "Kompyuter" and such are added to the language, yet the grammar, semantics and everything is still Tagalog. Also, the other dialects of "Tagalog" have evolved also and borrowed a lot of words from english and spanish the same way "Filipino" did. Speakers of "Filipino" and native "Tagalog" speakers could still understand each other, right? So yeah, "Filipino" is still Tagalog and technically just a standardized version/dialect of Tagalog. But is Filipino a different language from Tagalog? Linguistics would say No. :) Pasensya na po napahaba nanaman haha :)
@saisaipech3 жыл бұрын
@@tinolangmanowk8258 Your explanation is perfect! If KWF really wants Filipino and Tagalog to deviate from each other, they do need to change some grammatical features of Tagalog. It's like KWF is making a conlang. I think KWF's goal of making Filipino and Tagalog distinct is way too forced. Even adding vocabs from other languages such as "bana" and inventing new cognates from other languages such as "kalimbahin" are also forced for me. It will probably take hundreds or thousands of years for Filipino to diverge from Tagalog.

For foreigners here: In real life, the rapper, is a Fil-Caucasian born in Olongapo City in 1998. “Panalo” means “Winner” in English. The traditional music used in the song was Cariñosa. (Cariñosa (Spanish pronunciation: [kaɾiˈɲosa], meaning the loving or affectionate) is a Philippine dance of colonial era origin from the Maria Clara suite of Philippine folk dances, where the fan or handkerchief plays an instrumental role as it places the couple in romance scenario) The languages in the song itself are Tagalog, English, and Ilocano. Ilocano is an Austronesian language spoken in the Philippines. It is the third most-spoken native language in the country. He was discriminated just because he doesn’t look like Pinoy. “I ain’t Tisoy. I’m Pinoy.” (in English, “I’m not (white) foreigner/American, he’s Pinoy) He wasn’t pissed or angry. He was so PROUD! The erie “bells” in the background with the carinosa Spanish guitars is literally our aboriginal culture and Spanish cultures clashing. The bells are reminiscent of the tempo of some of the music of our oldest tribes which is mostly gong aka metal drums music.

That "Cariñosa" as the background melody for chorus in "Rondalla" ensemble arrangement is so lit!!! It made the song very Filipino. "Cariñosa is the National Dance of the Philippines and Rondalla is its music accompaniment...

Dudes, you gotta react to his other songs on his channel. Panalo caught all by surprise but this guy can also sing. He’s legit as an artist. Not a Filipino artist. Just an artist.

The chorus Carinosa was made during the turn of the 19th Century for Filipino Folk Dances, similar to the fan dances from Mexico and some latino countries. He says in the chorus: We are Filipino. Doesn't matter what the color of your skin is, or what part of the world you are in, you are Filipino and you are Winning. Panalo means winning. He raps in 3 languages: English, Tagalog and Ilokano. He is smoking and representing and I love this song for being a rallying cheer for the Philippines. Hats off to him. He makes a reference to Spain, because of our colonial past. He also speed raps and talks about Lapu-Lapu the chieftain of Mactan, Cebu who repelled Magellan and is credited for killing him. He reminds us of the strength of our blood and how we need to protect our land and be proud of our roots. So cool!

You have to react to his song "Idk" i freaking love the bars, he also made a 24-bar challenge video on his youtube account which gives off Eminem vibes. He's by far my most fav artist in the Philippines when it comes to versatility. He can be next to KZ imo. Guy can dance, can sing (kinda sounds like Shawn Mendez 💀) and can rap as fast as Eminem. Also fun fact: his dad is a lead vocalist/guitarist of an old Filipino rock band and EZ Mil sorta has beef with him (he has a song about his dad on his album). But he still considers himself more Filipino than white. I learned all that when i fell the yt rabbit hole after that performance 💀💀

On the line "I ain't Tisoy, I'm Pinoy(Fililipino)!" so the word "Tisoy" is a combination of words "Mestizo" and "Pinoy" together, they are originally used to describe the Half Filipino/Half Spanish-white people or mixed raced in general who has white/fair skin, it's not actually a rude thing, others actually appreciates it if they are called "tisoy" cause as we all know beauty standards in the Philippines is that when you have white and fair skin, then you are automatically beautiful, but with EzMil he used it in a context of being Patriotic on being a Filipino alone, and as we all know Spain colonized Philippines for more than 3 centuries so yeah that explains the SPAIN with Silent S. "Cariñosa" is a spanish word means Loving/affectionate, its also a famous name of a Filipino-Spanish Folkdance "Cariñosa" hence the tempo and the tune used in the song came from it.

He is singing/rapping in three languages (the Philippines has 89). He starts with Tagalog/Filipino (the country's lingua franca), then English, then Ilocano (one of the major languages in the island of Luzon). To paraphrase the chorus, he is saying that we're all Filipinos. Regardless of skin color or ethnicity: Tagalog, Bisaya or Ilocano we are all one in heart. No one can beat the ferocity that runs in our blood. Proclaim our victory. Discard all negativity ("negatibo"). The future is ours! The central theme is his pride as a Filipino (Pinoy). "I ain't Tisoy, I am Pinoy!" -He is not half-breed (Tisoy), he is fully "Pinoy"!
