And here I've been trying to hyzer flip by throwing with a hyzer angle instead of anhyzer...that and the simplified run-up advice improved my drives more than the last 3 months of field work. Thanks guys; this series is fantastic and I'm glad I decided to experiment with different disc brands. The gold-line plastic is my new all time favorite; such a great grip.
@Derek_11114 жыл бұрын
You are supposed to hyzer flip using a hyzer angle. That's why they call it a hyzer flip (it flips from hyzer to flat). You just have to use an under stable disc for it. If you use a stable to over stable disc then the disc won't flip to flat as well and if it does flip to flat it won't hold that line long before fading. An under stable disc will flip to flat and fly nice a straight for quite some distance before fading a bit at the end.
@akselim74033 жыл бұрын
Yeah the final 5 throws are not hyzerflips. They are just flat throws that flex because of the disc

I also was aware I was doing something wrong I just didn't know what. I had a flip phone in my pocket so it wasn't like I could check the internet 🤣 Anyways I guess I just wanted to thank you guys. After my first two practice sessions I'm already consistently throwing it 290. I'm trying not to think to much during the throw. Changing little things step by step. Way harder than it sounds. @freddiecrunk94993 жыл бұрын
Yes times ten. Been playing five years now at social level. Ah, but not arguing with you just throwing out there the value of some distance that it took me a while to develop. All those bird-eligible holes that are 270 to 350. My circle 1 putt is third throw. I enjoyed this vid thinking, hoping to practice ideas to get into the distance. I am still a noodle arm to would enjoy being on tee pad at a 350 hole and have a chance that second shot is a circle 1 putt. Again, not arguing with you. Putting is only thing I practice off the course. I do work on drives and approaches but while playing. Improvement in putting over the last couple years, to your point, has gotten be to be that social player that can regular shoot a 52 to 54.

Tomaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas where is all that hair? hahahaha Looking good bro! And as a former european master champion I can tell you that distance was the weakest part of my game but I did won that tour 3 times. And that was all due to accuracy. Having a decent putt also helps but parking, more or less, every shot from 300 feet out wherever you are or whatever type of shot...that is key. And you can ask Tomas, I am not a big guy but throwing in between 300-400 feet was enough for my game. I also have a mean roller lol So work on accuracy I would say :-)

See how much better the throw got when he was given the tip to run sideways towards the shot. The over-emphasis on reachback has people running backwards and putting the disc right behind them and rounding, and it really sets a lot of people back for no reason. The "reachback" is just a byproduct of turning your hips and shoulders nothing more. The same goes for the head. You don't turn it 180˚ backwards, it just turns whatever amount is necessary to allow your shoulders to turn. Unless you are the creature from the excorcist or an owl it is impossible to look forward while turning your shoulders backward. For me it really clicked when I just started trusting my body to throw an object from a backhand position, putting the disc firmly in my hand pushing it down with my thumb (with most pressure between middle/ring fingers and thumb) and making sure that the disc passes my right pec during he throw. And I look at the line for as long as possible before my head is turned away by my body. *Do not* pre-turn your head and/or body to start the "reachback". That's like throwing a ball and keeping your arm straight out behind you for several steps before you throw. The rest just works itself out.
@Latitude644 жыл бұрын
I find your input and thoughts really interesting. Especially the "trusting your body" part. /Jonathan

Best thing said in this video was Beginners should focus on consistency. Timing is one of the most important parts of generating the velocity to throw far. If your form is different every time you will never learn the timing to syncronize your upper and lower body and generate real velocity.
@stnbl15692 жыл бұрын
The “going fast” thing is very eye opening. That explains why the disc doesn’t go far when you muscle up because you’re taking away your momentum
@johnhall99004 жыл бұрын
I liked the concept of this video. Explanations tended to get more technical than a beginner can easily understand, should maybe break this into a few videos: disc selection and physics, footwork (standstill, one step, x-step), launch angles and grip, etc. Also, couldn't really see the discs in flight. :( Congratulations on adding 80' to your drives, that's amazing! Good job!

I would assume its much like baseball. Some can throw hard and some less so. Most disc gold tournies have divisions thst are broken down by throwing power (among other things). The place where we shot the videos are perfect...it´s not ideal for shooting video as the tee pad is usually in the shade and the field is in the sun/light. 😂😂😂 I feel you. If we just can throw far first we can always get straight later.

I'm a newbie, I've literally only played one game and got hooked. Today I went out and practice long distance drives and putts at my local course.i found out experimenting that I throw just as far without a run up in a stand still drive. I drove 4 in a row right down the middle a little over 300 ft without a run up. What is a good distance to aim for for a newbie?

Hey! I don´t know if there´s a correct answer here as the most important part is to learn the actual throw and not focus on distance. With that said I don´t do this and focus a lot on distance, haha. I would say 300 ft is a good start for sure :). Have a great day! /Jonathan

Great video, watching it again as I am planning to have a little disc golf course for beginners this summer if everything goes as planned. Using these videos to help me see basics that I could teach and also just learning a lot from them!!! Latitude 64 FTW BTW theres a little fun typo there in the end "Avarage" in stead og "Average" lol

Great video! And who is the band playing the ending theme music? Love the guitar tone and the jam!

Really like that song too. Don´t know the name of it tho. It´s like "guitar jam" or something as it is a downloaded song from a music service.
