My great grandfather was born here, but it was a VERY different time. He spent his entire childhood in an Latvian orphanage after getting separated from his mother as toddler...after aging out, he became a cabin boy on a ship bound for New York City. When he arrived, he jumped ship, Met my great grandmother and raised two boys here in the states. His first born, Howard, would move to Vermont after the Airforce stationed him at Ethan Allen airforce base in Burlington. Here, he would meet the love of his life, Elsie, a radiology student. They would marry and have three children...their youngest, Janis Elizabeth, would later give birth to me. Family history is SO interesting. 🥰

as a latvian i don't reccomend you visit in november (except for november 18), january, february, possibly march. november here mostly is rainy, and dark, the snow and christmas decorstions start appearing only in december or very late november), january february and march is like just snow or rain, any other month is a good choice

My mothers sister married my uncle (Irvin) we called him. They met at the end of the second world war,he was a displaced person from Latvia. His family name was Cablis ( I think that is the correct spelling). I have often thought how nice it would be to spend some time there and do a little investigating into his background. Latvian Song and Dance Festival is next year in June. 30 000 choir singers on one stage singing pretty mystical stuff. Some of the best moments from this video are from that festival. My suggestion is to visit at that time. Tickets are hard to get but the atmosphere should be felt throughout the city nevertheless. June's rainy in Latvia usually, though

Because they do not show it for obvious reasons. But I agree, it is rather nice in Riga. And actually you CAN live there. Especially if you have some income from USA - 500-600 USD aprox is enough to live a decent life there. And with 1000+ USD a month you are going to live REALLY good. Baltics only sucks for those want to earn thier living there and with unskilled labor.

snookoed isnt always summer. More cold than warm here. This summer wasnt too warm. The weather is fucked in latvia to say the least.
