I used to only get nitrous oxide at the dentist when I got a filling because I refuse to be frozen (needle phobic). Now I get it for everyday cleanings to prevent vertigo. At 3.5 litres of nitrous oxide and 65% oxygen, I feel incredibly relaxed. My body just goes numb and my eyes shut and are able to stay that way. I can still respond to any questions they ask. For IV’s during a surgery I need at LEAST 5 litres (50%) of gas to take the edge off. Works like a charm

They only give 3% and if you go to a concert you can get 100%. But they charge $150.

@@greenlawnfarm5827 yeah but at the dentist they mix the nitrous with oxygen so you're getting a better different feeling. When you do it with a balloon it's dangerous. You can black out and get injured

As an autistic person who was put on laughing gas for a cavity filling a few hours ago: Laughing gas can and will probably help your child remain calm at the dentist. I almost fell asleep while they were doing my teeth. I did get a slap happy and woozy feeling once i stood up though, and was slightly nauseated, so make sure your child is feeling okay after the procedure :) It's also your responsibility as a parent to help keep the child calm and make them feel safe. Make sure you go over what the procedure and the laughing gas will be like.

If a toddler overdoses on laughing gas, they could possibly suffocate, although it's extremely rare and there are no known deaths due to laughing gas at the dentist's because they monitor the amount that is being given to the child, and how well the child responds.
