That was an interesting Psycho Art Therapy Session. :) I used to be the children's director for a domestic abuse shelter near Chicago and I loved what the kids drew. If they draw a house is the sun shining? Windows? Open door?. My now 40yr old son was having a hard time when he was about 7. If he had clay in his hands and if you asked "How are you?" He'd shrug but his hands created the metaphor for what he was feeling. He ended up teaching art with a GED and working for Ralph Bakshi;

You know... when I started making 3D stuff some years back, I had this idea that I would create a ton of incredible work, people would love every piece, and life would be jolly af all the time. What I learned is that some of my best work was created while overcoming the hardest moments that I had gone through. The pieces I hated creating, turned out to be some of my best work! Though in the midst of anguish, when looking back... situation weren't as overwhelming as they seemed and the practice of letting those emotions out truly helped me grow. Laughing through the pain is a must!

The self portrait he fought, is my favorite David Cho painting. 4 years of art school and 15 years later, I've never REALLY had a painting speak to me. But the self portrait did. Don't know why, but it does. So, watching him fight it, I was audibly saying, NOOO! LUCKILY, the painting won the fight lol

It's not good to treat your self portrait badly but you gotta accept how you feel. It's like yeah, I shouldn't have been careless with that self portrait but are you in a place where you can lovingly hold it, look into it's eyes, say your sor- blah, blah, blah - and mean it? No? Gotta be honest about that too. This is self love also - being able to admit when you can't be there cause you're too angry or whatever. You have the capacity to be truly kind and loving, but it's not really love if you're forcing it.
