Too be fair according to ex Capcom employees who worked o. The original marve vs Capcom infinite and previous titles marvel is apparently horrendous to work with as they have all these policies and requirements to be put in they had to beg to let some characters in aswell allegedly

Or maybe as an enhanced updated version of MvCI like that as a separate game for PS5, Xbox Series X, Steam, & Epic Games. Just like the last time that MvC3 got a new revision of UMvC3 as separate games. Maximillian Dood did collaborate with Capcom before to promote UMvC3, but I don't if Capcom will ever notice this as a fan mod (they might issue a DMCA Cease & Desist). But to me, this will make everyone love MvCI again, after the backlash from the community. This is will be the ever chance to revive the fighting game legacy of Marvel vs. Capcom, as if... when's Marvel vs. Capcom 4?

IIRC they can't add more characters because the online anti-cheat will catch them. If they wanted to add more characters, they'd have to break MvCI's anti-cheat, and that would prooooobably piss Capcom off enough to shut the whole thing down.

not 100% sure if this is the origin, but there was a mobile gacha megaman game, Megaman X dive. they did a few crossovers, one of them were X and Zero with Devil May Cry. the game itself shut down, but there's an official offline version, Megaman X Dive Offline.
