I feel like if I were a parent and this happened to my kid I wouldn't make them go back to the same place where they experienced their trauma. Return to school, yes...but not the campus where it happened. This could be part of why Laura had a more difficult time healing from it than she should have. Being trapped in the same school for another 3 years must have been hell.

Danny 96 yes I will be going to columbine soon and it is very exciting , but it is so sad being the daughter / niece of columbine survivors. They have a new library that remembers the people who died in columbine. It’s so crazy knowing this happened 20 years ago. Also the middle school I go to has a garden called the columbine memorial garden it’s so devastating.

They were rescued from the closet 4 1/2 laters, the SWAT team was there well before that....They had to make sure the threat was gone before they helped those that were hiding inside as to not endanger themselves or the survivors and then they had to secure the scene

@@lisatucci6100 ok, i'm not entirely sure that makes sense. 4 1/2 hours seems way too long. swat teams are like 6-8 people. they go two by two, or three by three. should take them no more than half an hour to secure the entire school. unless they have to stop for lunch and coffee along the way. what do u mean "They had to make sure the threat was gone before they helped those that were hiding inside"? the only way to make sure the threat was gone was to go through the entire school, floor by floor and room by room. there are no other ways. even in the case of booby traps.

I don’t ever leave comments on videos, but for this one I feel I have to. I clicked on this video, after watching a few other short videos about the Columbine shooting, with the intent to just watch a few minutes and go to the next since it’s 30 mins long; however, once I started watching, I had absolutely NO desire to move away from it. You two girls are so absolutely beautiful and amazing, for your courage, strength, for your loving hearts. Im 34 years old and have never had to go through anything even remotely close to the horrific tragedy that you two, along with so many others from your school & community, had to face & overcome, but listening to the both of you speak, I felt some of what you experienced just by your words and voices. Bless you two for being so brave as to relieve those moments in order to speak to others so as to help them get through similar situations. I can only imagine how difficult it must be for you each time you do, yet you continue to do it. That in itself takes such courage, compassion, love, and selflessness. I know that if you two beautiful ladies moved me the way you did, someone who has not been put through an experience of anything like yours & dealt with the magnitude of sorrow, pain, fear, etc that you have; then the times that you have spoken & will speak in the future to others who HAVE been through similar situations..man, you guys have helped, are helping, & will help so many people this way- of that I have absolutely no doubts or questions!!! Thank you so much for being brave, for having such compassion for others, for your kind souls (I mean, they shine so brightly that just listening to you speak shows through to see what great people you are). I had gone to see Pearl Harbor that summer and talked about how no one would ever be able to hurt our nation like that again. On 9/11 one of my first thoughts was how very wrong I was. Recently while on vacation I was compelled to drive through Parkland in South Florida to get a better sense of what happened because whenever I hear of these atrocities they seem all too surreal as they are widely publicized through the media. As I approached the school I felt a sinking feeling of despair wondering how something like the shootings could have happened in such a beautiful Florida town and wondered how young people that are still enrolled there get up in the morning knowing that they are returning to the very place where they lost friends, classmates, neighbors and others to something so horrific. When I was in high school in the 1980's there was a lot of loss and tragedy of classmates loosing their lives to stupid senseless things like suicide and drinking and driving that made my high school years very depressing. Hearing you share your stories of strength and hope really touched me and helped me. Thank you.🙌💖👍

PTSD is such a long-term disorder to endure for individuals that have experienced such a surreal, traumatic, situation, it's a relatively new diagnosable condition.... we've learned so much about how to treat/deal with it nowadays..... it's never going to be easy but I'm so thankful that it's better understood now, and help is available for it....can you imagine what the survivors of the Titanic had to deal with, no one even knowing what it was back then, or very few, it affects everyone so differently, and they had no "name" to put on the feelings they were having.. survivors guilt, I'm sure, was a mind, gut wrenching emotion to feel on a day to day basis for those survivors to deal with, basically on their own....I applaud these two women, they carry themselves quite well when discussing their individual experiences that fateful day, they're very articulate in expressing where their minds were during, and after the experience...I hope they get better and better each day, along with the others also, who lived through the experience that will always be known as "Columbine".....may a higher power guide and comfort you all...all your days ahead

These kids were put up on a stage pedestal and leered at by adults below in a crowd as if they were up for auction, and what kind of order or plan was it to separate traumatized children from there parents, isolated at the neighboring library? Not only courageous, but as this testimony is so revealing yet has a similar ring , it corroborates such a dark profiled view of the core of this case, and this info is so important, perhaps its better it is hidden away in a kind of Christian recovery channel.

When I was in the shooting that happened at the school I went to we also had a very busy intersection right outside it.. in the chaos and panic a group of my friends and I laid out in a ditch by the school and after a few minutes we were convinced that the shooter was going to follow us out the back doors because the person he was going after came out badly injured asking us for help.. we didn’t know what to do but we called 911 and paramedics came to take care of her but we ended up running across the busy road into an apartment complex to get away because we didn’t know if the shooter was following us still and everyone else was heading that direction. The people driving on that road had about the same reaction to us running haphazardly through the road… they honked and were angry at us until they saw the chaos.

My daughter is a freshman at East Aurora High School in Aurora Illinois and someone wrote a threat in the boy's bathroom which said that the shooting will b worse than Columbine😢on May 10th. So only half of the students attended school on that day and there were a lot of police officers walking around in and outside of the school. They're going to b on high alert until the end of the school year hoping nothing happens🙏🏼

I was 17 when columbine high school shooting happened. I have lots of family all over Colorado and high school age at that time. A cousin of mine went to college with one of the students he always smoked the same brand of cigarettes that he did in high school.

Very difficult circumstances for so many psychologically as well as physically. The police/SWAT whatever failed miserably on that day. Their insistence, for lack of a better term, on perfect circumstances IAW their written tactical procedures of SOP is a horrible excuse for lack of effort. Having a person (teacher Patti Nielsen) inside the school on a 911 call already risking her life as it all transpired feeding critical information and the police with their terrible excuses for lack of effort. They knew right away it was students. They knew exactly where they were. They stood outside and did nothing. No one wants to die but courage is absolutely necessary in these situations. There is no sure 100% thing. Standing around outside doing nothing shows lack of courage and also costs lives. About the best thing I can say for the police is they played it safe. Hooray for them! It is the single factor that cost lives under those circumstances. Being a police officer or even a soldier is not for everyone. Courage makes a lot of difference. Yes, I was a soldier for over 20 years.

Playing devils advocate here, but to be fair this was the first major school shooting, and protocols were different as they had no insight as they would today. Yes the did fail, and could’ve done much more, however that can’t be fixed now, and can only be used to help shape the following and future tragedies. Also, it wasn’t just active shooters, there were bombs as well, which can change the way they approach situations.

Understand and you have valid points. But they had inside communications. What I guess bothers me is they seem to feel they have a written SOP plan for every situation encountered. Not true and not even close. Sometimes a plan comes about on the fly because lives are at stake. These officers took absolutely zero risk and responded in manner where what they truly believed what they THOUGHT would happen was actually going to happen in reality if they just waited around. "Sure we will just wait until they give themselves up and everything will happen IAW our biased plan we rehearsed." No, the real world doesn't work that way then and certainly not now. Bombs? Perhaps, but there was also helpless innocent kids and teachers in those buildings and they eventually did go in hours later. The bomb threat did not scare them then did it? They were not even sure what the status of the perpetrators was when they eventually went in hours later. So what was the difference between going in later and right away? Time, precious time was the difference. They had communications, they knew about Mr. Sanders too. Nobody was asking them to send in the entire police force they had outside either. About 10 right away could have went in and made a huge difference. You are right, nothing can be done now other than lessons learned for future encounters. Many of our young men and women in the military took their sworn oath and attacked objectives without fear of the unknown. With courage and integrity. Courage is as old as time itself. Gathering the best possible intelligence and taking action, same thing. Unfortunately the price that is paid for taking no action is often twice as bad from taking immediate action. We thought those planes on 9/11 would land and make hostage demands as scripted. Did not work out that way either did it? America waited and more lives were lost.

@@gvtimj I do see every point you're making, and agree with most as well. However, I personally cannot feel immense hatred for the officers, as I know the intensity and uncertainty of the situation caused utter chaos. Also, I'm sure there were responders who did want to immediately run in, but regular deputies are not trained for situations such as these, and probably wouldn't have helped the situation severely, as they could've been easy targets themselves, going in unknown. Originally they thought there were 8 gunmen, and that amount of threat calls for a larger operation. Thats where SWAT comes into play, and when they arrived, they pretty much immediately got into a shoot out, while Dylan and Eric shot from inside the building at the team on the lawn. So I do recognize there was some sort of immediate response. But going back to my bombs point, I also forgot to mention much of the doors were also booby-trapped, and a large percent were chained or blocked. So there was a significant amount at play, during an already unfamiliar and unexpected situation. Finally, regular police officers do not receive as much training as soldiers or special tactical teams unfortunately, and thats a problem with America itself, not just the officers who participated during Columbine. I am not American, but as a human being I appreciate you for your service and bravery to fight for your country.

Laura Hall & Sarah Bush are survivors of April 20th Columbine Massacure and they managed to heal through that ordeal and The police could have saved more kids and those kids saved themselves. Its one day at a time. The Library got the worst of it and 12 Students died and one teacher. Dave Saunders was a hero and he saved alot of people. Eric Harris & Dylan Klebold were the two shooters that terrorized Columbine and they killed themselves in the Library. That school was never the same again and Columbine High School was the school everyone talked about. If I heard loud booming sounds in my school I would ran out of there. The survivors were never the same when that happened in Columbine and the only reason why everyone was talking about Columbine was b/c there was 2 shooters not one. Then years later Columbine High School received another threat and then a bomb threat. These ladies managed to deal with alot and they survived. Now these people are all grown up and they have kids of their own. They still bring their kids to school even though school shootings are going on and some of them are even teachers at Columbine. The colors of Columbine are White & Blue.

Not very common, I am around their age .. early 2000s in when cell phones became more prevalent

The sickest part is the killers wanted everyone to still be talking about their killing spree 20+ years down the line. They wanted people to copycat them so, in this really sick way folks honor them by memorializing the horrors they caused. I remember when this first happened, we were concerned with the amount of coverage and footage that was available on the event. Everyone said it would help us identify the behaviors so we can avoid this type of thing in the future. Well, all of that footage turned into just what we thought it would...fuel for copycats.

I remember Columbine April 20th 1999 and where I was and it was unreal and 9/11 . Columbine was tip of the ice berg and then 9/11 blew everything to hell in September 11 2001 and the world hasn't been the same since and everything went to shit everything. I was called names like a terrorist and a bitch and it was bad. I was afraid for my life. I still am.

When US Americans agree to possess weapons and not to alter their gun laws , their mentality and their attitude the violence will not decrease. I am so glad that the most countries in Europe especially Germany have very strict gun laws, I am so glad that Germany is one of the countries with high standards of inner security because the German government takes good care of its citizens. Germany has a very low crime rate and a low rate of incarcerations, death penalty was abolished after WW II and later in whole Europe (with the exception of Russia). I don't feel pity with the US because the Americans create their own reality. Greetings from Europe, Germany!!!

The police could have saved those kids earlier instead they waited for 4 hours and did nothing! WOW! Those kids saved themselves and it was scary during that time on April 20th 1999 and it was big news when Columbine High School was shot up by two teens and it wasn't just one it was 2 shooters and everything all went down in the library and I remember hearing the story of Rachel Joy Scott and Isiah Sholes and how he wanted his mom. 12 Students and one teacher died thank god the bombs didn't go off there would have been more deaths. These ladies managed to go through alot. God be with them.

Germany is one of the biggest economies in the entire world (1. USA-2. VR China-3.Japan-4. Germany). and at last: In Germany exists very strict gun laws ( like the rest of Europe). I feel bad for you girls, why did they prop the library door open? They could have snuck them out that way. Rather then just sit out there and listen to what's going on. They waited around, why for? I think I even read an article that said one of the shooters was cornered behind a shed, why didn't the guard stay with him and take him to psych or jail;? Maybe I read it wrong but I was also 14 when I heard about this, but I was in texas at the time. Ironically I was also at lunch hour.

there was actually an exit door at the back of the library, the students escaped through there when the shooters left the library. I believe if teacher Patti Nielsen hadn't of told the students to get under the tables, the kids would have exited through the back of the library when they heard the gunshots in the hall getting louder as the gunmen were approaching

Saber Crosby I can never understand why Patti ran, after being shot at, and didn’t bother to close the library doors behind her? Even if she thought they were running after her, locking the library door would still seem the best idea to create a barrier between you and the shooter. I’m sure she feels terrible about that even now, but it just seems like the logical thing to do, to close doors as you go.

I don't wanna make light of this at all but i was totally thinking, they seem kind of LDS. then when the one testified of what her sister said, i was like oh wow, that's so sister missionary. And then you are! That's awesome. Thanks for the video. I just watched another survivor video of columbine and he was LDS too. Makes me believe God really knew what was happening then and had strong ppl go through it.

Was said they didn't know if there were explosives on Klebold's person due to how he was postured. They moved him a bit. Yup, there you go. He was on his knees when he suicided, Harris was sitting with knees bent up when he went. Hence spatter on bookshelf behind where the gunshot happened. Also, Harris broke his nose from kickback from his gun if you're curious about that.
