Laura Mvula is otherworldly, and her courage to push past her struggles with anxiety in efforts to honor what she understands is not only her great gift but also her charge by the Universe, accepting the call to be of service inspires me to do the same. This performance of an already exceptional piece is evidence of that which cannot not fully be conveyed in a studio but must be witnessed in its truest form. And we are privileged to bear witness.

It's the same for me but not on as great of a scale as Laura. My social anxiety is pretty bad sometimes, but I used to hide it by being anti-social. I now try to be more useful to society by doing volunteering work and meeting all kinds of new people. Personally, my anxiety is selfish because I do not only hold myself back, but I hold myself back from people who could do with help. Whilst helping others, they are helping me by becoming more socially confident.

The Universe? Don't be silly. Like many singers, she is given words and music to songs by GOD. Give thanks to Him, not to some fluffy universe new-age BS thing.

Heard this on Bass Reeves. For me and others who had dads and brothers in our lives from the beginning until now, (my dad wasn't absent) and my friends all had dads, this song still resonates. It still represents our love and desire to always be in the presence of our dads. We love them and they love us so much. Here or passed away, we will always need their love. So even to my dad, please don't leave me. Spiritually, may he never leave my heart.

Father, father, my earthly guide, oh how I miss you inwardly. Our relationship through my childhood, was not blemish free, there were so many obstacles, neither were we! We laughed, we cried, we so diligently tried....My earthly father, I will always love you, as you will always be apart of me... Goodnight Daddy!!!!!!!! Brother, brothers, how sweet were both of you. We hung out, partied, talked for hours, sometimes until dawn. So different you two, my hero, my comforter, you gave so much to your families and also to me!!!!! Father, father, oh HEAVENLY FATHER, how magnificent, fabulous, great are thee...... Thank you so kindly for choosing me!!!!! Father, father, HEAVENLY FATHER, I appreciate your 💘, guidance, joy, inner peace, all you have blessed me with, so freely. Thank you, my HEAVENLY FATHER, as you have sustained, kept me, thank you HEAVENLY FATHER, for the gifts of my earthly heros, those, important, dear three!!!!!!!

This is a beautiful, haunting arrangement of this song. The longing evoked by the ending with its pared down vocals and soft, soft orchestry.

No no, those anointed by God include Jesus and King David, she isn't anointed. She doesn't even serve God or obey His laws. But nevertheless, God feeds her songs anyway.

I’ve been crying for 2 days… I turned my back on my father and he passed in 2010! Only to find out my narc mother made up all the stories so we can be on her side! Let’s just say I’m now trying to heal from my toxic mother with my father who did everything to try and fight for a relationship while he was still alive 😭😭😭

Absent fathers only are so (usually) because they cant handle the shame they feel. If they can be understood and loved and do same for themselves? The toxic shame would loosen its grip and they could perform theke fatherly duties as their heart desires.
@wintersyve20003 жыл бұрын
Indeed. And this song can definitely be applied to absent fathers, but it's actually inspired by something different. Laura grew up in a stable middle class family with two married parents, so her father was never absent from her life. However, after she grew up, (I think in her early twenties) her parents divorced, which drove a wedge between Laura and her father. However, she said that they later reconciled when Laura herself got divorced, and she came to understand his experience. It just goes to show how complex relationships can be, and the actual motivation behind a song can be much more nuanced than the most literal interpretation.

I just wonder how the heck this educated British recording artist, songwriter and composer native of Birmingham and singing so beautiful songs can have so very pretentious pronunciation. Annoying 🤔
