@xojoannaax3 vibrato means healthy voice. Broadway singers aren't autotuned and aren't only singing once or twice a week. They're singing in rehearsal every day and then doing 8 shows a week. Straighttone usually comes from a rigid soft palette. Tensing that during singing (outside of choice moments) is brutal on the voice, even on quite passages. If you want to see what happens to a show that works with people who straighttone too much, look at the Spring Awakening tour.

Your bare feet sliding on the old wooden floorboards, Home just as you left it but still you’re shaken, Like walking into a museum somehow out of time. It’s all the same except the girl in the hallway, Where she’s been and who she will ripen into, Your childhood’s on the other side of a sprawling divide… too wide. Take a silent breath. Hold in the change. Tell yourself you still live here. Take your bags upstairs. It’s the only way you’ll get through today. Count the hours. Take a shower. Wash yourself away. The house is pulsing with an alien heartbeat, Was it always here but you never listened? It’s calling you to be the girl that you were way back then… again. Take a silent breath. Hold in the change. Tell yourself you still live here. Take your bags upstairs. Put away your clothes, take it nice and slow. Be their daughter. Nothing’s harder When nobody knows How to return home. How to return home And how to survive, There’s no written guidelines. How to go back, How to show up and unpack. How to show up. How to grow up. How to take a breath. Take a silent breath. Hold in the change. Tell yourself you still live here. Take your bags upstairs. You still share a name But you’re not the same. You don’t fight it. You don’t hide it. It’s a whole new game of how to return home. How to return home. How to return home. How to return home. Your bare feet sliding on the old wooden floorboards, Home just as you left it but still you’re shaken.

@exodus21714 жыл бұрын
@tggold There was a time when i thought it could be eliminated by vocal techniques and exercises, but my voice teacher from the conservatory enlightened me about it, saying it really is natural for some singers. I further verified this with my colleagues expert in the field of voice physiology, thus the medical explanation i gave earlier.

Its funny when some of you comment that the jaw shouldnt shake when doing a vibratto.. well its true that some singers do it intentionally to make an ostentatious performance... BUT please do your research, there really are singers whose quivering jaw during a vibratto is not intentional.. it results from dual innervation.. same nerve conducting the impulses for the vibratto skill also have motor innervation for the muscles of the jaw. This may be the case for Laura, Lea Salonga & a few others..
@exodus21714 жыл бұрын
.. for some, what's apparent is the quivering of the muscles just below the jaw line.. like that of Michael Ball and thats just a variant. What is not acceptable and is evidently forced, is head shaking during a vibratto. This can be corrected by proper technique with a good voice teacher. Laura is a good singer with a really nice timbre, her quivering jaw does not hamper at all her excellent rendition.

@exodus217 Or it's jaw tension that either wasn't fixed during training or unable to be fixed (jaw shaking is a pretty clear indicator of TMJ in a singer). Looking at how much her jaw is chomping away on the notes that aren't sustained, I'm going with a problem that never got fixed. And head shaking during oftentimes is the singer trying to release tension, not manufacture vibrato. Not really acceptable during a performance but it's better than them tensing up and not getting through the song.
@dmorrissey15 жыл бұрын
yeah, you're right her jaw is like quivering like crazy -- her vibrato is obviously forced, which is a let down. because she sounds great.

@subliminalsandco31313 жыл бұрын
why are they forcing their vibrato
@exodus21714 жыл бұрын
@tggold with much respect to you, i still disagree bro. Laura is too young to have temporomandibular joint arthritis which manifests as jaw tension. I think it really is her inherent dual innervation at work here. I know these things cause im a doctor who also sings in musicals in my side of the world, and im a jaw shaker myself when i do vibratto although its not as apparent as Laura's. About half of my singer friends (the good ones) also have jaw shaking, varying only with how obvious it is.

whoever poured that water at the very end needs to be pimp slapped with that very same glass. Seriously, way to ruin the finale of a beautiful soloist performance... -_-" Incredible job honey! I'll be singing this song at my vocal coffeehouse tomorrow :D
