It seems that I wasn't the only one that felt that Pausini's voice was much higher that Mika's while singing "People have the power" Don't understand if it was Mika that was holding himself or Laura that get much involved 🤣 And their voices didn't really "fit" in the duet, don't know maybe they just choose the wrong songs to perform, anyway cool to see them on stage together.

it is, unfortunately it was also the best venue available that was compliant with ESC strict parameters (you should search about it, it's quite interesting what is needed to host the competition, like the venue must have a minimum height, a certain audience capacity and availability of airports and hotels for all the expected crew...)

Actually the overture of the first semi final was an excursus of Italian music from Puccini (Pavarotti) to Benassi (Italian disco) very different genres but all Italian.

In the past, I didn't like Mika and Laura singing togheter, in a duet. I like both of them singularly, but I think their voices don't match very well, because they have completely opposite strenghts and weaknesses. So, they can't find a common ground. Laura has a very powerful and vibrant voice, but usually a quite monotonous and not very versatile interpretation. She's precise and in tune, but she usually tends to shout and, especially, she makes no effort to adapt to her partner's singing style. Mika, on the other hand, doesn't have a powerful voice, but he has an excellent sense of rhythm and a quite... "flexible" way of "jumping" between notes? I don't know how to describe it. He can be very delicate when it's needed and usually does better than Laura in intimate songs (in fact, I didn't like Laura's attack in the first song. But maybe it's just because Laura wasn't at her best, I know she can do better). But, then again, when he sings sometimes it comes out more air than sound, and his timbre isn't pleasant to everyone. But, strangely, this time, I think it wasn't that bad? Their performance was actually better than I expected. Still, I'm glad that in the final they'll sing on their own. (Ps: I'm not a music espert, at all, just an ordinary listener. So, these are just my impressions.)

@@AnnukiJ Hi! Yes, I've listened to "Grace Kelly" too. I think Mika always had a high and clear falsetto, and a lot of energy on stage, but not a powerful voice. I mean, if we are talking about its volume. But, yes, he definitely can sing more than just calm and intimate songs 😉. I love how lively and energetic his early songs were. Still... I think recently, in the last few years, he's struggling more when he's singing. He especially struggles with his falsetto, since he tends to avoid it whenever he can. Thank you for being so nice when you suggested it, I appreciated.
