November 13, 2024 - Laura took the girls for a “fine tuning” lesson with Maddie at her new training facility in Woodland where the day was brisk and very windy. We were impressed that Honey and Sue were cool and calm to harness up in the breezy, unfamiliar surroundings and as we hitched them to Maddie‘s wagon . We proceeded out into the wide open spaces on the roads around and between plowed fields . The girls did great, Honey engaged to pull her share, and Sue stayed in hand without pulling ahead of Honey. In addition, Sue has completely gotten away from her habit of counter bending left when turning to the right. Although the girls are doing extremely well at home Laura wanted Maddie to see how they are going now to ensure their harness and the lines are adjusted correctly. Maddie only made a minor tweek to Honey’s outside line to take up some slack on the inside line.
It was a wonderful drive and beautiful to watch, Honey and Sue forging ahead as a matched pair working as one. Their beautiful action was punctuated by their manes blowing upright in the wind and their tails whipping and wafting in the breeze - which made for some great slow motion video. The microphone on my iPhone really picked up the wind noise so that conversations we had are hard to hear. So I ended up adding the zither music to distract from and partially mask the monotonous sounds of the wind.
